Of course paying Marlin more won’t make him a better coach. Obviously the greater pay actually should reflect our willingness to retain or aquire whatever coach is in question. That’s why a extension was foolish. Nobody was knocking on the Big Fish door.

Ask Dr. Maggard why he did it next time you see him. If the extension had been granted in March when he would have only one year left going into spring and early signing recruiting, there would be lots fewer questions about it. Also, if only two years had been added rather than three, that would have been more palatable to some.

If Marlin were able to put together a season good enough to get an at large berth here don’t worry about it. The next year another school will be paying him, and it will be a lot more than $750k.

Top four was only one of his requirements. Really read it all. Mine is consistently top three, mostly real chance at regular season champs. Plus he’s going to the NCAA often. He’s done none of that nearly often enough, and never parlayed regular and NCAA appearances.

Being in the SBC 4th is similar to being 15-21 quarterback in NFL

Finishing in the top 4 of the Sun Belt is a minimum requirement of mine added to more postseason appearances. And to be honest with you, even that might be too low of a floor of expectations in this terrible conference.

I might have said Top 4 before, figuring that UTA and Little Rock were pouring funds into their programs, but from info recently posted, that doesn't appear to be the case at all. Who else in this league really has any history at all in basketball other Ga State and the Cajuns? Maybe there's someone there and I'm just not remembering them, but I don't think so.

ULM has a good history, but all the good parts were 30 + years ago. USA was pretty salty for a while, but have been bad for a while now.

Only GaSt has been decent on any kind of consistant basis for the last decade.

ULM was pretty good when they had Greg Procell, and when they had Calvin Natt. I believe they are on some lists as a top100 basketball tradition school. Dont remember where I saw that, though.

It's the one he got when he promised his team he would get one if they made some milestone - maybe the NCAA BERTH. I think it's something with the state of Louisiana and maybe a 🌶 or a 🔥 Flame.

Of course, that was small-time basketball back then, kinda like those Shipley teams that Willis said wouldn't even get a whiff today from the NCAA's.
