So called fans are playing program suicide by withdrawing game day support.
I disagree, Turbine. Those of us who chose not to spend our money watching our poorly coached team play games against the little sisters of the poor are not playing program suicide. Sticking with the restaurant analogy, we are sending a message to management that the food is bad and the service is worse. Many of us have talked to the athletic administration and expressed our reasons for withdrawing support from basketball. The whole purpose of withdrawing support is to force the administration to either take basketball seriously or start treating it [financially] like a minor sport.

In the end, the only voice heard is that of Benjamin Franklin.

Either way, (start taking it serious or minor sport) the choke hold method is dictating that they operate without money.

That is no way to restore or bring a program to greatness.

There are other ways to get the message across to management, which incidentally is whom the fans really have a problem with.

He better go get a JUCO big, well really 2 at least, or we are in serious trouble going forward.
Agree that bringing in a big man who can play is critical. Johnson will help in lots of ways. He has a nice left handed stroke and is actually the best perimeter shooter on team. His rebounding will be fine as he is also a smart player. However he is nowhere the rim protector Gant is and not nearly as athletic.

Yes there are; and I, for one, have done them. That did not appear to work, but as Fanatico said, Benjamins talk much louder than any fan, and when they don't hear Benjamin's voice, they start listening to fans..

I have never had season tickets for basketball, but I never missed a home game when I was a student, and I try to make the big games when I can since then.

I spend all of my money on supporting football. However, if I ever think that we are serious about bringing back the magic of the Blackham days, I will buy season tickets.

Right now, we are not serious. We are doing the minimum because that is what we are allowing to happen. I get it. We have much, much bigger fish to fry with the football stadium, but sooner or later, the current staff will have to produce tourney wins or get off the pot, and I will be front and center requesting my first season ticket purchase.

I'm just not doing that right now as long as we consider having rent-a-wins galore and rent-a-tourney appearances as being successful.

I’m not sure why scolding someone for being a life long fan seems to be progressive to some of you. It’s like a marriage. This is my university I support, I said the vows. If me and my wife go through rough patches I don’t stop sleeping with her. 😂😂😂😂
Jacob, you are free to make your own choices and quite frankly, glad that you are still willing to pay season tickets for basketball but honestly, the only scolding we saw on here originally was you scolding those of us who questioned Marlin's contract. We weren't even necessarily saying he should be fired. You then tried to make arguments as to why we are bad fans and should support the coach you claim to not be a fan of.

I would be curious to know where season tickets stand this year for basketball in relation to years past. Have they gone down? Being that many have said their piece to Maggard, if support continues to dip (if it truly has) then its moronic to continue extending Marlin.

We all have our choices to make when it comes to how we show our displeasure. I will not fault fans for going to the games as I'll likely make several this year myself. That doesn't mean I approve or am in approval of Marlin's contract, subsequent extensions, mediocre record (at best), overall performance as one of if not the highest paid coach in the league and 1 NCAA tournament appearance in 8 seasons. I'll have issues with people who want to tell us to shut up about it and be happy. If they want to continue on the path we are on and hope for a great season every 7-8 years that's fine but the university has pushed a "strive for excellence" campaign that seems to elude the basketball program.

That's a damned good question and one that needs to be answered before we were to hire anyone as it needs to be a priority to both Maggard and whoever he hires.
