There’s two great examples of the demise of a men’s program due to ESPN and the growth of women’s basketball. Ruston doesn’t even tick the viewer needle in either case. The up side, the men MIGHT outdraw the ladies now.

It's your right to spend your money at a crappy restaurant. Just don't expect everyone else to follow.

And something you're not understanding is that by demanding a better product out of our athletic department does not translate to one not being a fan. Anyone who wants to see the program thrive and prosper, in my book, is a fan.
If I like a restaurant that turns to crap I go to another restaurant. You don’t this university go pull for another I guess

Or as your doing now. Just quit eating out

    Getting a little testy here.

I demand better of the university and the athletic department.

In a nutshell, there are only 3 ways fans can express their support, or lack thereof, for a given program.

They can attend the games (spending their hard-earned money to do so) if they're in agreement with the direction of the program. You seem to be in agreement with the direction of the program and that's fine. That's your right.

If they're not in agreement with the direction of the program, they stop giving their money to program via not spending dollars on tickets and not donating extra funds.

Finally, they can voice their discontent personally to the AD. I've done that before myself.

None of this is rocket surgery. We have an AD in place now who I believe "gets it" as it relates to running a successful athletic program. I'm puzzled by the move to extend Marlin, but not knowing the reasons why or all the details of the negotiation, I suspect that at the same time the extension was given, the lowering of the buyout was also a message.....turn this thing around......perform better, or changes will be made.

If Maggard is like you, comfy, then he'll eventually hear it loudly and clearly from Cajun fans that they are no longer satisfied with status quo.

Saturday night I paid $16 for a ticket for a corner seat, $5 for a medium soft drink, and $4 for a bag of peanuts. $25 for one person to watch a badly coached team with no depth. Not much of an entertainment value. Couldn’t imagine bring a family of four to watch that.

But you picked that $25 off the money tree in the back yard, right? So it's really no big deal. Stop complaining, Marlin's only in year 9, give the man some time.

As far as the staff is concerned, they are not going anywhere after this season no matter what happens due to the extension. However if this season and next are both poor, things may change. That may be a slightly different perspective than I had a few weeks ago but only because of thinking more of the reduced buyout.
Mike, I’ve tried my damndest to be quiet or at least more quiet than usual on this topic out of respect for guys like you. I’ve even tried the “I don’t care” approach. Some of that is organic, but it’s hard to not follow the basketball team. I’ve done it my entire life. The brutal truth is, the customer that will pay for a good or bad product dilutes the quality of said product for everyone. I realize that some fans just like everything that goes into following the program. But we need those certain kinds to be self aware. We have a mutual friend that fits this category. He knows his relationships and experiences make him biased toward the staff and program. But he doesn’t take it personally when guys like me make the observation that a segment of our fan base uses Cajuns basketball as a social club .

College basketball is a business, and should be run as a business. I’ve said it a million times. It is not good business to invest heavily (compared to peer investments) and continue to leave money on the table.

Honest Cajun basketball fans know, we have a problem. It’s deep rooted. 80% of our core fanbase is 50+. We can’t attract target demo because we don’t compete nationally, game day environment is like a Bingo Hall, OOC home opponents are unrecognizable and the SBC brand of ball is unwatchable.

Again, the only way to take advantage of the #2 revenue producing sport is to make the tournament. We don’t do that NEARLY enough. I don’t care that this is a 1 bid league. I should be able to expect, bare minimum , 3 appearances a decade. Considering the strength of this league, the money we spend, the history we have, the facilities we have...

A lot of people are sick of being stuck in the mud. And I’ve been quiet, but if we don’t make the tourney again this year, I’m going scorched earth when the season ends. And you may not think it matters, but I can assure you, it absolutely matters. As Jay Walker likes to say, “fans fire coaches”.

I do not purchase a ticket at the game. I already have season tickets I paid for, which I purchased just in case the team is good I guess. So now I’m using my tickets.

To each their own. I grew up a Cajun fan watching football basketball and baseball. I still attend those games consistently. Softball is awesome and I enjoy the games I attend but I don’t make as many as I should by choice. I started going to a few soccer games now that my girls play soccer.

I’m not sure why scolding someone for being a life long fan seems to be progressive to some of you. It’s like a marriage. This is my university I support, I said the vows. If me and my wife go through rough patches I don’t stop sleeping with her. 😂😂😂😂
