So you think Loomis/Payton knew they'd be drafting Kamara and Lattimore after year 2 of 3 of their 7-9 string? I can see that preseason meeting: "hey we need one more 7-9 season so we can get Lattimore and Kamara to get back to the postseason." Part of the plan was to draft the future offensive and defensive rookies of the year? They knew the end game of their 3 straight no post season appearances? They knew they needed to be aggressive in offseason moves in order to not miss out for a 4th straight year. It paid off. Still no offseason moves coming from Reinhardt Drive.
What's the plan here big guy? Is the plan to keep having a year or two of regional appearances, then miss for 1 or 2, then make it back to a regional, miss for another year? Then maybe we catch fire and make it to a super regional again? It took 14 years to make it back to another super regional. Are we going to wait another 14 years again? Do we want to consider our program just another G5 program? Or do we want to be a national player?
It's been 18 years since Omaha. It was a lifetime ago and the game has changed. What makes you think we can get back there with Robe? Faith?
Disclaimer- I am not calling for Robe to be fired (although some will still twist it that way). I am not calling for annual trips to Omaha or super regionals. This is for an open and honest discussion about the current state of the baseball program and where the future is heading.
