Thread: Basketball recruits

  1. Default Re: Basketball recruits

Shareef O'Neal, Shaquel O'neil's son who just decommitted from Arizona, just committed to UCLA. With the fact that Dion Brown's son Jordan was interested in UCLA, how does this affect us, with the recruiting of Brown?

As far as Coach Marlin is concerned, he may stay here for a few more years. That is not because he would not welcome an opportunity in a higher profile league. He may stay simply because other programs are now looking for someone younger than he. See LSU and Will Wade for example.
...and he may want to stay because he finally has a team clicking and listening to him. He had a good base. I think this next recruiting class will say a lot and if he can grab another solid transfer.

Do they play the same position? If no, he may want to play alongside another big-time recruit.

It's hard to speculate when we don't know what he is looking at in a school. The fact that he is considering us at all says maybe a chance to win a NC isn't a consideration.

Maybe following in his dad's footsteps means enough to him to trump everything else. We definitely can't compare facility or tradition wise with UCLA.

California and Nevada may also be players for Brown. They are both much closer to his home than UCLA. Like us, Nevada is having a good year as a mid major.

Its good we have transfers who's home base is far away, Brown can relate to those guys...its not like UL starters are within a 200 mile drive...
