Alexander Graham Bells. Dogs, Tigers, Bears, Buffalo's, PEPPERS....none of these can claim they are "smarter than a 5th grader." haha. If the idea of a Roughneck would happen, which it won't, we will not require him to take final exams. He's a mascot. Take some of your more academically gifted universities. A Long Horn, Blue Devil, and Fighting Irish really wouldn't do that well on the LEAP Test. But I'm just throwing that out there. _
I know what you're saying, and wasn't intending to sound so overly critical of your idea.

In fact, I do think that if you could work it out, then we could easily get some sort of corporate sponsorship for this thing. Perhaps we could get a Schlumberger mascot, or a Halliburton mascot. Halliburton would probably be best because their colors are red. but, they could give us some cash, and we could have a guy in red coveralls, with some Halliburton crap on it alongside the Cajun logos. I just don't know if its the image we want to portray as a whole. but, to have one walk around as a publicity thing for them would be ok. although, I said "IF you could work it out". It would probably require some sort of larger agreement or sponsorship deal that would go way beyond the mascot.

I don't it would ever happen or if it's even a good idea. It's kind of like the UTEP Miners. It is something that the area has a history of. I actually like the BullGator the best. We have gators on campus and we play in the swamp. But I'm sure the pepper is here to stay for a while and in another 3 years we'll change and then another 6 after that we'll change. This university needs to find an RESPECTABLE identity. It's kind of like the Wisconsin Badger being called the Wisconsin Cheese's, or the University of Idaho Potatoes. But hey it works for Ohio State. They are named after a bean.

but at least the bean is something that is representative of them. I would think that the rice plant or the sugar cane plant would be more representative of us than the pepper. Its more Mexican or Texican than it is Cajun. I read last week that Jay interviewed Scott Farmer and Scott said that he liked the idea of the pepper. I've already begun preparing a letter to him addressing that, among other comments and thoughts that I have. I figure that being he is new, it is a perfect time to offer my suggesstions about lots o' things.

I did hear that on the radio. He said he loves the pepper idea. That was immediately followed with Jay saying...."now that you made all the listeners pull over, roll down their windows and puke, I can tell you that you're in the minority on that one." So hopefully he somewhat got that message.

Almost no one in the oil field today is uneducated. It is a very high tech business and you need trained people to operate all that expensive equipment.

When I originally said uneducated, I really meant no college degree.

I don't know how practical/safe/ or humane (for all you liberal tree-huggers) this would be but what if we would bring an alligator to our sporting events? That would be cool to see. There are plenty of universities that display their mascot in cages at their games, why can't we? It may not be our official mascot (then again what is?) but would be an identity to our university. Aligator = Cajun

Oh, I can see a big Gator pond in the North Endzone, and after every score he leaps out and pulls down a whatever we are playing. Oh, wait, can you train these big reptiles at all.

The Dog mascot was a bulldog originally, I believe. You are all wrong, though, The mascot should be a Rooster and we could build a 2 million dollar facility for it. Every good cajun owns chickens!!!
