West Monroe is not a rural school. West Monroe is the affluent part of Monroe that is on the west side of the Ouchita River. They constantly bring in kids from Neville, Ouchita High and neighboring schools. They were one the schools that held back lots of 8th graders so that they would be one year older than football players in the same grade. Their facilities are among the best in the state.

What public schools that have been dominant (with the exception of Acadiana) has been able to take advantage of this?

Hahnville and Destrhan are the only public High Schools in St Charles Parish and they don't take kids from outside the parish, and if you live on the Eastbank, you go to DHS... you live on the Westbank, you go to HHS.

West Monroe is also rural... I don't think they can take advantage of this rule, and they probably don't need to.... the school is HUGE.. they have over 2,100 students (highest in the state)..figure 1,000 of them are boys, so for a 100 kid football team, you are talking 1 out of 10... you should be able to find some studs in there.

Not the point, but the last classification numbers had Lafayette High as largest with 2500 students.

My apologies...I stand corrected.. I was looking at a very old sheet and didn't realize it..

It's absolutely ridiculous to think that this is a public/private issue. You public school folks are absolutely delusional.

Regardless of how they do it, it is still considered a rural area... West Monroe only has a population of 13,000 people... Monroe itself has less than 50,000 people.. that is considered rural.. it's definitely not urban by any stretch..

#2... those like me that think that public schools can compete with the private schools.

I stated it earlier in this thread. What in the world is wrong with a promotion/relegation concept?? Can anyone explain why this wouldn't work? It is used widely in one fashion or another in club sports. Soccer in particular utilizes it from youth level all the way to the Premier League.
