A friend of mine that I went with was trying to get a cell signal and I told him that cajunfield now has wifi. After he got on he said "wow, there are over 31,000 people on the network". I never knew you could tell how many people were on at any given time. He's a big computer geek guy though.lol. PS: this was only his second ever UL game. The last one was the texas a&m game
After the game he said, 'man, this was fun, I'll definitely come back'!.
That is a great picture.
I was there and I think -- with those on grass, standing, and at concessions/head - there were AT LEAST 32K.
The stadium seating capacity is, what 37K?
fill in the seats on upper deck and endzone with those in grass, standing, at concessions/head and you get REAL close to capacity.
Think about this, the old seating was 32k. Take everyone in. The new EZ, the hill, the concourses, bathroom etc and put them in seats in the old configuration...by their count we would still have 5k empty seats. Which basically would be the whole student section would be empty.
---We need an addendum of this asap and make sure that we add at least 5K as the student attendance-----When the att figures are put together with the crowd number after the season, this will just be part of a deflated Cajun figure!!! This hurts recruiting and any other bragging rights that go with our crowd size!!! I once made up a saying that "a picture is worth a thousand words---unless photo shopped"!!! LOL
John Dugas is right next to me during games. I am normally the first person to get the attendance figure. He wrote down "paid attendance" and that was the number reported.
Here is what goes into paid attendance:
Tickets sold
Player Pass tickets
students
anything sold at the union
comp tickets (those aren't many)
NOT included in count
Band(s)
Cheerleaders,
Jazz
Concession workers,
Event staff
Security
And stuff like that.
Seating capacity at Cajun Field is officially listed at 36,900.
Having gotten a good look from above I can tell you:
South End zone was about 50% capacity.
Upper deck had a LOT of empty seats.
While there were empty chairbacks on the first level, most of those are season ticket no shows which are counted in the attendance figure.
Now, here is something you may not be aware of:
Virtually every school calculates non chairback seating capacity as allowing 18 inches per seat. In today's society, seating capacity is not, in reality, 36,900.
Because if you allow 18 inches and put Hawk, Hammer, Z, Turbine and me side by side I guarantee you that's more than five seats.
That is part of the reason why the stadium appears to be closer to capacity than it really is.
Hope the info helps everyone understand
PS--There weren't more than a couple hundred fans on the grass.
PS--Check out the sound next home game.
What's the news on the sound, jay? Why so coy. Not everything related to this school has to be a freaking secret.
Never mind saw your other post.
Hey Charlie.
No one is being ____ing coy.
I made some calls this morning. Your answer about the attendance is above.
Your answer about the sound system is in the sound system thread.
