Which brings up another question. Do we calculate at 18" for total capacity but use a different number for actual ticketing? I've never measured my seat. And is there a different allotment for the new section in the end zone over the older parts of the stadium. I'm fairly certain the spacing between rows was increased but not certain if the width was as well.
I think the 18" seat for determining capacity explains a lot. I know I'm not alone in requiring a little more shall we say elbow room. I zoomed in on the panorama and it becomes pretty obvious that everyone is spread out comfortably in the non chair back sections.
So ultimately our (and many others) seating capacity is over stated in realistic terms.
UT Knoxville expanded Neiland one year by over 5,000 without adding a seat. Erased bench seats from 18" and replaced with by putting all 16" apart.
If there were 27k in attendance there is no way there were 33k against North Texas in 2011
I don't even get Jay's response "paid attendance" (from John). I know two groups of two that had tickets (season) and didn't go to the game and didn't give their tickets to anyone. If they were "counted" then we had less people than reported. I disagree with Jay (massively) that only a couple of hundred people were in the grass. It was WAY more. I started counting them and then extrapolated that value to an approximation of the rest. I also counted a line of people standing and did the same. And saying that an audit is why we don't count every head in the house doesn't make sense. We announce "attendance". We can always reduce that to actual paid attendance to auditors when necessary. Other schools have auditors and they always exaggerate their attendance. When you don't get aggressive with that number, you only hurt yourself. I guess we'll never agree on this... but I'll stick with my own estimates.
