This picture looks to be right at kickoff. The best time to get a good photo is in the middle of the second quarter.

For the size the crowd eventually grew to be, I was extremely surprised at how many people weren't seated well into the first quarter. One couple that sits next to us came in way after kickoff and said the crowd waiting to get in was huge.

This is a big part of the attendance problem we need to fix.... In any other stadium (beside ULMost)on the first level from the 50 to 35 yard line seats are always filled it. Luckly it was an good crowd at this game though, but it's usually worse. It's sad b/c those are the best seats in the house and they just collect dirt and peanut shells from not being used. What ever the ticket office is doing selling those seats to big sponsor/donors has got to change.

Just think of the people not in their seats because of restroom or concession reasons----ok now say there are 100 seats in each section that are empty (that would be the silver areas in the photo)----Now take the people in the concourse and the people in the NEZ and place them in seats ----the crowd is now estimated to have 10,000 empty seats which is the 38K less the estimated 27K-----See I think this is a very serious problem as different conferences say look over the data---The Lturs, Tulanes, and Monroes of the world approach our numbers when it isn't even close!!! and I guess photographically is the only method of differentiating the situation!!!

I think the 42,000 number includes the grass endzone. Seats for 37,000 I think.

Fair enough and thanks for the correction... Still the question stands.. Would the Fire Marshall allow 16,000 more PEOPLE in last Saturday?

This is true. 20 minutes to kickoff, the lines to get in were almost out to West Congress. Just think how bad it would be if the "reported" attendance was 37k. Need more scanners/ gates to enter

Been saying this for years. The best seats in the house are always emptiest. There's usually fewer than there was Saturday but even that was pretty bad.

On that point, how many people are we turning away (back to their tailgate spot to drink and watch TV) because our gate scanners are too few? I saw a few people get in line, wait a while, not progress quick enough for their liking, give their tickets away and walk back to tailgate.

Regardless, the reported attendance figure is absurd. Grossly under reported, worst I've ever seen. I would not be surprised if there were 33k+ bodies within the gates of Cajun Field Saturday.
