Saints need to acquire Glennon from Tampa Bay. Peyton has oohed and aahed over Glennon and wanted to draft him the year Tampa selected him. As much as I love Drew Brees and think he's a great quarterback, I attribute more of the Saints success to the system than I do to Brees. If Peyton thinks Glennon could run his system and we could grab him for cheap, I'm all for it.
Let's see… I can recall Chase Daniel looking like an All Pro working with the ones year after year during camp and preseason… traded away to be a starter elsewhere and hasn't sniffed the field…
Prior to joining Peyton and the Saints, Brees had never thrown for more than 3,600 yards…
Since joining the Saints, Brees has never thrown for LESS than 4,375 yards…
Prior to joining the Saints, Brees threw for 27 TDs one year… and only twice threw more than 20 TDs in a season…
Since joining the Saints, Brees has averaged 35.1 TDs per year…
Receivers have come and gone, Linemen have come and gone, surrounding personnel has come and gone… The one thing that remains consistent. Sean Peyton.
I could continue on if you would like, or is this sufficient enough?
First of all, Chase Daniels was doing this in camp and preseason. Not regular or post season play so there is no comparison there.
This offense was designed for Drew Brees at QB. It's a quick, multiple read offense which requires accurate passing and timing. The offense plays directly to Drew's strengths, which is why he has had so much success. QBs who are missing any of those elements would fail.
Sorry Hawk, but for example Campo, Seattle is a "system" offense. Wilson just has to make the throws. It was the same offense with Hasselbeck when they went to the SB against Pittsburgh. Now, what Wilson does well is find the open receiver when the "system" on that play breaks down and he has to scramble.
Anyone care to break down the stats pre Brees-Peyton and post Brees-Peyton? just an anomaly?
You kind of answered this for me? So, Matt Cassell plays a season while Brady is hurt. Plays like a pro-bowl caliber QB, then gets traded and makes his money only to be below average the rest of his career. Ryan Mallett, ditto… Matt Flynn does the same in Green Bay, only to be traded and never earn a starting job again. Good systems make good QBs. I have never thought Brady was anything other than a system QB with a winner's makeup. Rodgers on the other hand has loads of talent and could win anywhere under any system, but also as pointed out, thrives in a good system.
