    Am I correct?
There are no NCAA regulations in regards to that issue that I am aware of.. it is, however, in the best interest of the school to use a football scholarship, since you get 85 of them... Track (combined with Cross Country) only gets the equivalency of 12.6 scholarships... so, if you give someone a full ride in track, you are severely limiting the amount of money that you can give out to other athletes.

There actually is a regulation. Any scholarship athlete who plays football is charged to football as a full scholarship, regardless of the amount he receives from his other sport. He must actually play to be charged to football; practicing with football is allowed with a scholarship in another sport. So Brazil is charged to track unless or until he participates in a football game.

NCAA allows any athlete on track scholarship to participate in spring football. If the athlete plays football in the fall, he must be on a football scholarship and counts against football.

Here's the "yeah, but..." with him. Hopefully he's learned from his issues and is ready to move forward. Our coaching staff will help him in any way they can, but he'll be on a short leash (as are all our players when it comes to the law):

Thanks. Hopefully he can keep his head on straight.

Sorta. It is called the 'Bear Bryant' rule. When the NCAA first put scholarship limits in football, the Bear would sign 10 or 15 studs and give them swimming or tennis or golf scholarships. The NCAA countered by putting in the rule we are talking about.

Now that is awesome info. Now they need to change the rules regarding players whose parents "work" for the school and the student goes to school free (see Mario Chalmers and Danny Manning). By allowing Chalmers' dad to be the "director of basketball operations", it freed up an official basketball scholarship that could be given to another recruit.
