Really appreciate going through these threads & getting everyone's takes on the action as it happens. Sounds like Milhorn needs to take some rest & may work as middle relief only as needed. But he gave the Cajuns some great innings this season standing in the gap for the other guys. They couldn't get that national seed without him. What a ball club!
Let's not forget the screw job attempted on us AGAIN. If these umpires don't know the implications of the outcome of this weekend, heads need to roll. That play at first base was atrocious. I don't mind if he missed it. It happens. But to stand there and refuse to ask for help is ridiculous. You have a 22-32 team playing for a berth in the tournament. I understand. But you have a chance to have a national seed out of the Sunbelt and that crap happens. If he was so confident, walk over to the home plate umpire and tell him you are 100% sure you got it right. Don't refuse to even ask. With what Tony has gone through this year, he at least deserved that courtesy.
Am I wrong, or did the first bas ump have a bad angle on it? i.e. he was facing the first baseman, not looking at a side view where he could see if the foot stayed on the bag.
It seemed to me he was out of position. If that's true, it's pretty sad he couldn't ask for help.
I didn't see it, but Jay said is was clearly a missed call. I am surprised the guy didn't conference with the other umps on his own, but if he was asked and refused, that is extremely odd. It may very well be a reaction to Tony and the suspensions laid on the prior officiating crew. Regardless, we won without it. Hopefully, this guy won't want to make any further mistakes and will be the invisible unbiased umpire he's supposed to be. Video evidence is not on his side. He made two mistakes last night. The call... and the refusal to conference.
