My point about Lee is that it's going to take a HUD type incredible job to turn around the program. Lee made sure all the success of the past would no longer be relevant in the future, re recruiting, fan support, general mojo. Cajuns basketball has nothing to do with the past at times great years, because Lee run was so bad, the past was just burned up. You may not want to hear about Lee (who does?), but it's because of him that the recruits don't want to hear about all the great times for the program in 70s, 80s, 90s and early 00s. A very very good mid major program was turned into a laughing stock for some time and now is just trying to be competitive. There is not enough talent on the floor and realistically you can't expect the current team to win consistently, but you are trying to find the clutch performances of the former cajuns basketball program (the won that had some great years and was consistently good) in this team and wonder why its not happening. Lee severed off the past success pretty much for good. Its a program now just trying to find its way and for it having a winning record is an accomplishment. 2 very good players, and not enough talent.
Marlin not doing a great job, but it would take a great job to fully overcome how bad things were for a while under Lee. Need some banners again on the ceiling and not from over 10 years ago (with mostly losing seasons since then while sunbelt has had its worst ever decade) in order to attract a lot of good recruits. Marlin has won wherever he has been before, at college level, so its hard to understand that suddenly he can't coach. he should probably be let go, but if administration held on to Lee for so long, they must think Marlin needs an extension and a raise about now.
