Thread: Help re-Establish a Louisiana Basketball FANdation

Even better, thanks for the upgrade.

Maybe that little lay up, foul line shot, and three pointer gets you several kegs for your fraternity, or party, of course you gotta beat the buzzer. Fail on the three point and you only get a mini keg, fail the free throw and you get a cold one, fail the lay up and you get a trip to the rehab hospital.

Their was a promotion for the game on January 11 vs UTA. Promotion was kids under 12 get in free and receive a free basketball. Problem was that game was on the same day as the Saints-Seahawks playoff game so it would have been poorly attended no matter the promotion. There also was a $5/ticket game back during the holidays. Promotions are being used. I agree with MelRock in that a better job of making folks aware of the promotions needs to be made. However, I remind folks again of the fact that basketball is not drawing well ANYWHERE in the deep south. NOLA.com report on last night's LSU-Missouri game in Baton Rouge stated the game drew a SMALL but vocal crowd. Those are two SEC teams that played with good overall records and they could not draw. You have to be a ranked team to draw these days in this part of the country.

In glancing at the "Perfect March Madness Bracket" story I am reminded that you don't always have to have a winner to create excitement.

Isn't sending emails a free marketing avenue?

That's right up the alley for our way of doing things...you would think we would get 5 emails a day from UL related departments.

I'm not a student anymore but I'll probably go find a spot in the student section. It's been pretty tame.

True... but butts in the seats will help push this program up a notch as well. I believe that the drought in good Cajun basketball, along with Marlin's style of play, some of the negativity (all earned) surrounding the program... created a disinterest. In order to shock start the bigger attendance, UL needs to pull some gimmicks and get the butts in the seats. A healthier size boisterous crowd AND winning will bring back the old days of big time Cajun basketball IMO.

I understand that there are promotions and, yes, they should promote the promotions better but a kids under 12 free or $5 tickets are not targeting students, they are targeting non students. Which they should target non students who will pay. Its a business. But if you want butts in the seats and college sports atmosphere, you have to go after the students better. I lived on campus from 2000-2004 and I never ever heard anything about a basketball game during the season. Not even sidewalk chalk about it. And that is the easiest cheapest way to promote on campus. Not a pushcard, not a poster, not a sign, nothing. And we had some NCAA tourney teams then.
BBall as referenced by CajunsMike is a tough sell down south. But we could do better than we are doing with promotions.
