Again, what skin is it off your ___?
no skin, just irritating to see the same sad song sung over and over and over..
As long as ULM has a say in the "university of Louisiana" thing, we're screwed. Despite the fact that
we are two universities going different directions, their logo sucks, their helmets suck, their school sucks, their athletic department is broke ___ and sucks, etc...doesn't matter. Empowered with their inferiority complex, the name game is going nowhere.
Acadiana University--boom...did that blow your mind? It's a new millennium. You want separation? you want a brand? you want unique? chew on that.

YAWN
let's see if it sticks, while you have a school up north with virtually every right to use the same name. We just "hope" they want to hold on to their ULM brand, but that seems to be a pipe dream. Acadiana University is a clean break.. It's not D2 if we have a D1 budget and a D1 product. Acadiana University can't be jacked with. We beat an SEC or ACC school, it will be a household name. People unfamiliar with the heritage will slowly be informed. Maybe you should read the little wiki article. It's dumb that they didn't think of it sooner, during the USL (university of slow learner days) If the name had been changed 20-30 years ago, we'd be over the "reeks of D2" hump by now.
I remember having discussions with "people more connected than me" when the name change went down. It was my contention that it didn't matter what tactic we used. As long as we had the city tag, shared the name with another school, and live in a state with such cesspool politics, that there would be no way on God's green Earth that we would "earn" the moniker Louisiana.
The bottom line is that the people who decided to do this name change this way were only considering Academic implications. Athletics never entered into the calculation.
The problem with our university "going after" the Louisiana moniker is that it can only create waves that will disrupt the Academic pursuits within the State. The question is how much heat is T-Joe willing to withstand from other schools and his own professors to continiue our "Louisiana" mission.
If you see Cajuns on the scoreboard Saturday, there is your answer. Not much.
I submit we change our entire way of thinking regarding Academic reputation. Why should we share recognition received for Academic achievements with the entire state when the entire state has fought us tooth and nail every step of our history?
When we send the next satellite into orbit, Acadiana students did that in spite of the state of Louisiana. I am not a Louisianian. I am an Acadian.
