Its one of those things, you either like it or you dont. I cant listen to Jay because of the dead air. LSU's Jim Hawthorne is absolutely amazing.

The best part of an ls who broadcast is when doug moreau has to correct hawthorne in such a way that it makes it obvious that he is an idiot or going senile. Doesn't it sound like they want to fight sometimes?
On the football broadcasts, Jay has too much dead air, even with Gerald in the booth (I like what the big guy brings to the party, especially when he's talkn x's and o's)...Jay is overmodulated when he describes a big play and THERE IS NO CROWD NOISE to be heard. Jay takes a breath, dead air, pull the crowd mike up a notch or two to at least cover for the dead air. I'm not a pro, I just play one here....
Speaking of play by play at the college level.....Best Basketball PBP ever, any era, anytime, any team.....hands down Don Allen. Don could work a beard growing contest and make it exciting. No dead air there...
Best College Football Play by Play is Woody Durham, one time and now retired voice of the UNC Tarheels. There is no dead air, mistakes, second takes, etc when Woody was mike side...a wealth of information, always down, distance, score, and could recognize a play better than the color guy. That being said, Woody couldn't carry Don's jock with Baskeball, even if it was Carolina. Worst pro football play by play radio is the 3 jock sniffers who work Carolina Panther games....as pathetic as the Carolina franchise....
