Thread: Indy Bowls scouting UL, ULM, & LaTech

Default Indy Bowls scouting UL, ULM, & LaTech

As the Southeastern Conference and Atlantic Coast Conference bowl pictures continue to shake out, the AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl scouts are covering their bases.

The game’s selection committee will scout one ACC game this weekend – Saturday’s Duke-Georgia Tech matchup in Atlanta – while keeping other scouts closer to home.

I-Bowl scouts will be at three Louisiana locations – Ruston, Monroe and Lafayette – to keep an eye on Louisiana Tech, Louisiana-Lafayette and ULM.
Tech hosts Utah State, ULL hosts Western Kentucky and North Texas plays at ULM on Saturday.

I think they'd be stupid not to get ULM in that bowl if they can. That makes too much sense geographically and with the possibility Browning would possibly be back for that game.

It's pretty much a given two Louisiana schools will not play in that bowl. Any of the three would be good for the I-Bowl.

Tech will probably only go if it's the last option. They are probably too tired of always having the Indy Bowl

I think the Independence Bowl prefers teams from exotic places like DeKalb, Illinois.

What has to happen for us to get an invite to New Orleans if we aren't Conference Champions? Doesn't the Conference champion get the right of refusal or acceptance of the Nola bowl? Just curious.

Well you can't argue with that huge fan base and the blockbuster TV ratings they bring.

You know, everyone from Chicago loves the Huskies - Tillman told me so.

I think that an Independence Bowl appearance, against a Big 12or ACC team, would be a wonderful opportunity for UL to make some recruiting inroads in north Louisiana. Some stud ball players come out of there every single year. LSU gets the pick of the litter, but after they cherry pick the best two or three that they want, that entire area is wide open to everybody. If UL could start getting three or four blue chippers each out of New Orleans, north LA, and Baton Rouge every year, our overall talent level would improve greatly. In Dinardo's first season, LSU played in the Independence Bowl. He said at the time that LSU needed to lock down Shreveport and that playing in the I-Bowl was the best possible way for LSU to do that at the time. LSU is, and always will be, #1 in Shreveport, but there currently is no #2. La Tech gets very few recruits out of the Shreveport area. If you look at their rosters, I bet ULM and Tulane have as many or more players from Shreveport than Tech does. I view a possible I-Bowl berth as a great opportunity to strengthen UL's statewide appeal. I hope it happens.

Agree. Shreveport-Bossier City Boardwalk and the casinos would be filled with Cajuns!
