UL Keeps Rogers For Uncertain Future

All posts here can be summed up this way: the WBB program sucks top to bottom and we can't afford a buy-out. Rogers should pay UL for NOT performing instead of the other way around. Put the pencil to the cost of wins since the Halls left and it's pathetic. Any excuses offered or attempted distractions away from the obvious are glossed-over remnants of hogwash. It's about wins baby. NOTHING ELSE! And this crew can't cut it. Please excite us with the arrival of the NEXT ACT!

_ An "interim" hire for a year would totally destroy recruiting. Interim should only be used on a very short term basis to finish a season or something similar. _

I do want to thank coach Rogers for blowing the previous coach retaining ( contract extending) excuse/concept out of the water.

You know the one . . . the one where a coach needs an "ever present" year on his contract to be able to sign anyone.

... I also have no doubt that the wbb program would take far more than a couple of successful seasons to simply be a little better at the gate.

I think 6 good seasons, with a couple very successful seasons, mixed in with one blockbuster season, and promise for the future, would get the fans through the turnstyles.

I also think it would take far less success than that to get them "interested" in the program, which is always the first step before they actually go to the games.

Exactly----Lady senior basketballers---UL wants you---we have great academic programs, a nice new lounge area with redone locker rooms, nice court and sometimes in the Dome----Oh our coach (Unless a miacle occurs) will not be here to coach you---T-Bine you hit it on the head----the program compared to what was inherited is DESTROYED!!!!! And we are keeping the coach that has overseen its downfall!!!

Once again, had Coach Rogers been replaced, there would have been no buyout as his contract was expiring.

Turb I think you are dead wrong here. I base this on softball, one of the most loved programs at the university, and a lot more fun than women basketball at any school. These young women are a premier team, almost an elite team, and been so for decades, not a few years. Gone to the WCWS, beaten elite teams in regionals, super regionals, and the WCWS. Still the typical day at Lamson Park is less than 750 fans.

No way does a WBB team at UL even at the level of Middle, a very good program by the way, get enough fans to pay for the increase in costs of a much better coach, assistant, and resources needed to bring them up. LTU found out how hard it is to stay at an elite level in WBB, and they had hall of fame coaches there.

Interest, excitement, and butts in a seat are in fact vastly different things. Clearly neither of us can prove our positions because the powers that be will not throw good money after bad.

I guess my only real point is that I simply cannot understand how seemingly intelligent people think wishing on a star can make dreams come true. You have to actually be willing to do the hard work to get those wishes. For the most part on our forum is wishing on a star instead of doing the hard work, and blaming the administration for not making their wishes come true. The dollars are not there pure and simple.

You make some excellent points. Nice post. I do, however, feel that the university should not retain Coach Rogers. He has proven that he can't do it, and it's time to give somebody else a shot at it. The program is atrocious right now. I'm pretty sure that there's someone out there who is a good, young coach that would gladly accept the salary that Coach Rogers is being paid (maybe even less) to get a shot as a college head coach. And if all of those that are saying that the reason he was retained is biding time to hire someone with a really nice resume are correct, that option would still be available. I would almost guarantee you, a good young, high school coach, or an assistant at another college program would jump at the opportunity. In my opinion, the university owes it to those ladies to give them a chance to be successful. Again, our current coach has proven that he cannot do it.

What is it you are expecting to work? It is a money saving move nothing more.

While you have a "known, unknown" in interim (thank you Donald Rumsfeld) you have a "known, known" in Rogers.

You know, Gay Nix went from 1-26 one year to 12-16 the next, but that doesn't mean keeping her was good move. Rogers did improve his record a total of 2 games this year and there are actually people running around the athletic department praising his improvement, however. However that does not leave room for anyone to claim an interim could possible hurt the program in the long run.

I don't argue with the logic of those that believe Rogers is not the person for the job. What I argue is that this is not considered the "status quo" for an administration that has proven it is willing to put money on the line to improve our athletic programs and facilities. You and several on here still find it important to criticize so I encourage you to speak with Farmer since you have all the answers. The only difference is that you do not have to prove your actions to everyone else and have nobody to answer to if you are right or wrong which is obviously hard to prove either way. For that reason, I suggest speaking with him if you feel that strongly.
