Thread: Ragin' Cajun Blog: Proctor pledges to Cajuns (Jan. 6)

The whole problem here is that too many local kids view UL as a back up plan. I for one could care less if we don't sign anyone from the Acadiana area if they feel like they can always fall back on the Cajuns. I want the best kids that we can get that WANT to be here!

If Hollier doesn't want to play here then that is fine by me. I know that the staff wants Bakari Hollier, Micah Eugene, Montrel Carter and Tatford to play for the Cajuns, but they will not wait for all of them til the last second. Only Eugene and Carter have that privilege out of the area athletes.

I believe winning is what fills the stands....local kids may add a family member here and there but winning is the key. Thats just my humble opinion.

I agree, and then when the "back up" doesn't "pan out" some develop great anomosity towards the program, never recalling they were asking the program to take 0% all along.

I think we need to realize that the local kids have not seen a UL team win more that 6 games a year since they were born. With 1993 and 2005 being the only winning seasons. Maybe they have witnessed the Jerry Baldwin years and the Bustle years of 6 and whatever records, maybe they have seen the communities frustration of no bowl games, no conference championships and no fan support and no student support. Maybe the local kids are too close to the program and have seen what has happened here their entire lives. Maybe they are just a little skeptical that this time is the charm, who knows maybe they decide on UL and hopefully this time is the charm!

OK then, 5A 1st Team All State TE that is local and not pulling the trigger, or do you pull the trigger on LaDarius Green who is ready to commit?

....so we are signing Ladarius Green?....This statement is in response to the fact that we are assuming the guy we sign in place of a local Tatford, just cause he is ready to pull the trigger, is going to be the next Ladarius Green.

Which may be true...and they have that right. At the same time, if those same local kids wait to commit (whether they have a valid reason or not), UL cannot be blamed for not "reserving" a slot for them...just In CASE they don't get what they think is a better offer.

    That's just how recruiting goes.

Let's see, Larry Pettis is 6'4" 240# and runs a legit 4.5 40 as the first TE that we have committed. All of the Acadiana area athletes that are currently offered by UL better sh.it or get off the pot to include Hollier, Tatford, Carter and any other prospect that has been offered.

This staff has a tremendous reputation in Mississippi and have been recruiting those kids for Miss St. and Ole Miss. The commits that we have from the Magnolia state are SEC quality kids and were MSU and Ole Miss fall back kids. The Louisiana kids that are fall back prospect for LSU have rarely chosen to come to UL. I hope that Hollier and Carter commit to the Cajuns and I hope Micah Eugene realizes that he could start as a true freshman at UL and decides to play for the Cajuns.

Everyone wants the local players from Acadiana, Carencro, Breaux Bridge, Northside, Comeaux and the two Catholic schools to want to play here. But UL needs to start winning to change the perception of the program locally IMO.

    Are Eugene and Hollier eligible?

Okay, local D1A program with an aggressive young coach, excitement in the air, fundraising taking off, scholarship offer in hand and a family legacy at UL...do you wait around until signing day to pull the trigger and maybe get left out in the cold or do pul the trigger and get on board with the program that is ready to give you an opportunity?

It works both ways. Folks on here who know me can tell you that I am one of the biggest boosters of STM kids as my son played for STM a few years ago. But this is business and Hud is committed to doing what it takes to win. If Evan doesn't want to find himself on the outside looking in he needs to commit while the offer is still on the table (as it has been for months now).
