BB #10 not retired?

I think the number is retired as well. But here is something to think about. Schools handle retired numbers/jerseys differently. Indeed, we handle them differently between sports here.

It is possible that Sam Houston had retired jerseys.

The one thing that is interesting is that it can be a recruiting tool.

1) Some kids like to where a certain number.
2) Sometimes you can impress a kid by telling him that you want him to wear the same number as another good player.

I was just informed by a reliable source that the reason #10 was being worn last night was because there was a mix up with the uniform supplier and not all of the correct uniforms have come in. There is a possibility that #10 could be worn for the first few games, but once all of the correct uniforms are delivered, the #10 will remain retired!!!

Therefore, for those that may be worried about my sensitivities, I can return to my normal state of calmness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FWIW, I would prefer that UL develop a "Ring of Honor" or something similar to that to honor great players in the future, instead of actually retiring numbers. But since the University decided to retire those numbers, then IMHO they should remain retired.

For UL, that's the equivalent of the Yankees re-issuing the numbers worn by Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, and Whitey Ford.

I agree with the comment that you shouldn't retire numbers in football because there are too many players on a football team. Instead you ought to have a ring of honor.

There was a criteria under which jerseys could be retired in the future (I don't remember exactly what it is....) and they also came out with a policy concerning reissue. A jersey that is retired puts the number on hiatus for 20 years, after which time it can be reissued.

Wont' go into whether that's right or wrong....that's for opinions to form. Just wanted you to know what the policy is.

The Ring of Honor concept is really the way the numbers should be handled, with the name of the immortal player beside the number at your field, court, etc., with the number being used. The NFL handles it best in my opinion.

Having said that, still nobody for the New York Jets is going to wear #12, and nobody for the Denver Broncos is going to wear #7 again.

Bo Lamar is our Joe Namath because he put the basketball program on the map. When I signed out of my high school in California and I told the PE coach (who was also the basketball coach) I was moving to Lafayette, Louisiana, he replied, "Southwestern Louisiana, 13th ranked basketball team in the nation."

Andrew Toney is our John Elway. He put the basketball program back on the map.

I guess before someone gets married he ought to check with the spouse-elect to make sure he/she doesn't believe forever means 20 years.

Makes absolutely no sense. I was there for the end of the Bo Lamar era and the idea of doing this would have never entered anybody's mind. This is a loose ball foul, or should I say loose bowel foul. Sounds like good recruiting material if I were a rival school! "When we retire our numbers, they STAY retired!!! At USL they only stay retired for 20 years."

While we are on retired numbers, how did Damon Mason get his number retired. His bio is not impressive enough to warrant retirement, IMO. Merely being a first team all conference player one year, having the 3rd highest, single-season number of tackles in one year of any UL player (who was #1 & #2) and being a national Defensive Player of the Week for one outstanding game vs. Texas A&M does not appear to warrant having a number retired. It might put him in the Hall of Fame, but a retired number?
