You are correct. We have no shot at him now.

The fact that he is signing a new extension has nothing to do with whether he wants a big job or not. He will sign the extension to get financial security. Big schools are not scared of contract buyouts like we are on our level. _

Big schools and Murray State do not go together in the same sentence. They cannot afford that and they are not on the level of a BCS or bigger mid-major school. He will not sign an extension of that magnitude unless he plans on staying there.

That's what Murray State is saying.

If we truely want him, we must have the leadership at the top to go and get him!

It has nothing with truly wanting him. We do, as we also want Tim Floyd. However, its about opportunity and timing. He is a hot commodity at this moment and with any success in the tourney, he will likely become a bigger candidate for more prestigeous jobs. We can't compete with BCS schools and what they can offer him. We've already committed to offering and paying our next coach a salary that will be amongst the best in the SBC and is well above our budget allowance per the state but have decided that we will compensate a good candidate. Kennedy may be at the next level and we just can't go there.

One big upset in the tourney doesn't mean he is unreachable or we would have lost Fletcher and others.

Yes, but he has put himself in a position to land a BCS job after this season or the next. Do you really seeing him coming to Lafayette for 3+ years? As much as I like the UL job, I don't see him bringing them to Final Fours anytime soon. He could win a game or two in the tourney at UL, but he can do that at Murray State. UL could offer him more money, but the difference is marginal compared to what BCS schools can offer. Unless he's just really in love with Lafayette, his next job likely won't be at UL.

I think that Bob Marlin from SHSU would be perfect for this program.
