You don't have to. The fact is, he won't get the same money at Murray St. as he will here. The difference will not be that big but he will get better money here. The OVC conference is nothing to write home about and is a step down or two from the SBC as hard as that is to believe. While MSU is certainly going to work hard to offer him, if they offer him a 4 year deal like you say, why would he do that if his goal is to coach on the big stage? He's going to get some serious play this offseason as soon as his stint in the tourney is over. He will have some BCS schools calling him and he'll have a school like us. A school that will put up better money than he'll get offered where he is and he has ties and roots in LA. I don't see the logic in staying at MSU. That decision makes the least sense unless they are able to scrape up more money than we can offer. That, from many sources, is not expected to be a possibility.

Mick Cronin won a championship at Murray and ended up at Cincinnati

Mark Gottfried won at Murray and ended up at Alabama.

Billy Kennedy winning and ending up at Louisiana-Lafayette doesn't make sens financially. Even though we all know how good the job is. _

By no means do you have to defend Kennedy. His pedigree is premium and we, as fans, should be thrilled if we can land either he or Floyd. However, that record may be a bit deceiving. That 30 win season has absolutely NO impressive wins as his most impressive wins may be over FIU and Morehouse St. That is not the resume of champions. If you look at his schedule, there is nothing that says...WOW.

Here is my line of thinking. The right job is all about timing.

So, if Kennedy doesn't get the big time job he wants this year, and decides to wait till next year rolls around, I think he figures that he will have a better shot to win at Murray than he would at UL on a one year basis.

He has the best job in his league hands down. UL is arguably the best job in the Sunbelt, however, it will take some time to rebuild.

I don't think you give enough credit to the talent we have returning and that this core of players shared a division championship just a couple of years ago. If you are talking strictly about wins and losses, you are right because they have shown that they play nobody whether its conference or OOC games. A bigtime school may like that you won 30 games but they may look at who you beat and say that might be a bit inflated. Also, if he's waiting for that big job, he's not going to sign a 4 year deal as you indicated.

The job here, IMO, is the most attractive job in the belt and now that we're willing to pay somebody handsomely for it, it's going to be a better job. He's got some talent coming back and if he's hired, he'd likely be able to bring in some nice players but I don't think this team needs to be rebuilt, it just needs a shot in the arm.

The fact that he is signing a new extension has nothing to do with whether he wants a big job or not. He will sign the extension to get financial security. Big schools are not scared of contract buyouts like we are on our level.

Default Probably have to say goodbye to Billy Kennedy

Murray State is too good of a team for him to bolt to come to Lafayette.

Yeah, I heard that. Maybe it's a premonition! A really half-arsed one but hey, that's how we like doing business.
