Houston Bates to UL?

Interesting to read the level of doucheness that permeates from great LSU education there....Awesome stuff. However, one point that was made and is interesting is what will that say to Mickey Johnson? He is a DT from St. Pauls who will be one of the better recruits coming out of LA this year and I'm wondering if he's going to get a bitter taste in his mouth about what apparently happened to Houston. I know our staff has been on him and may have very well offered him early. Could be interesting.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Maybe BJ can shed some light on the early offer possibility...

Not sure if we offered Mickey yet. I heard he has like 16 offers though. If anything, Bates would maybe discourage him from going to BR, but not necessarily to come here. Who knows though.

He has an offer from UL, be hasn't talked about it publicly. Johnson is closer to "5-11", then "6-1" right now, but he has a great motor. Bates is coming to UL, the exact date he officially steps on campus I don't know. But he qualifies for several grants, and doesn't need parental approval to sign them. Grants are not binding, like letters-of-intent.

This is absolutely huge for our program. If you read the stuff on droppings as Bates seems to have done before as some of the posters alledge that he went on there and started arguing with some of them on things they were saying, where many of the fans are critical of how good he could be blah blah, and you come here where everybody wants this kid to come to this program and is excited for his decision, it has to make his decision that much easier. Hopefully it will sway a Mickey Johnson although he is loaded with offers and we will be a very longshot to get him but again, maybe these things will sway his decision. Also, the posters mentioned Rocky Duplessis and Josh Johns and I wonder if they are having issues there as well?

This kid has taken a beating and LSU fans have been brutal. It's really a sad example of why some athletes are turned off by LSU mania. Some kids will be perfectly happy to take a gray-shirt at any major program, but others will not. There is no need to trash a 17 year olds decision or his character because he chose to take a full ride at another university.
