What I wrote was my understanding after speaking with someone with knowledge on the subject. I could have easily heard wrong or assumed something incorrectly. Thanks for your input.

In the end, according to what Spikes told me, he had offers from Utah and UNLV and strong interest from Kansas State and Purdue. Other schools involved early in the process had moved on by the time he was back on the market.

Mike Leach firing = good for UL
I wasn't jumping your case about it. It is a common misconception. A NLI without an offer of financial aid is not valid or binding on either party.
This is from the NCAA website: Financial Aid Requirement. At the time I sign this NLI, I must receive a written offer of athletics financial aid for the entire 2010-11 academic year from the institution named in this document. The offer must list the terms and conditions of the athletics aid award, including the amount and duration of the financial aid. (A midyear football two-year college transfer student-athlete must receive a written offer of athletics financial aid for the remainder of the 2009-10 academic year.) In order for this NLI to be valid, my parent/legal guardian and I must sign the NLI and I must also sign the offer of athletics aid (see institutional policy for parent/legal guardian signature) prior to submission to the institution named in this document, and any other stated conditions must also be met. If the conditions stated on the financial aid offer are not met, this NLI shall be declared null and void.
This is one of few years where the Cajuns sign a large number of recruits. I'm on the fence still on whether this class can eventually bump us up to a more competitive level. I guess time will tell, but for now we need to get these guys signed. Can't be too excited, because half of these guys may not ever make it on the field. However, I think we are improving on the recruiting end, which will no doubt help on the scoreboard. I was looking at Rivals and Scout and it does seem we are on the upward trend compared to the past several years, in getting more and more talented players. Sure, we've gotten some here and there in the past, but to be a decent D-1 team, we need MORE of them, quantity and quality. Hope some of these guys can contribute this year.
Well, we can be fairly certain that guys like Robert Walker, Kevis Streeter and Aaron Spikes (should he sign) will almost certainly help us out immediately. I think that Bernard Smith, Lionel Stokes and Lamarcus Gibson will also contribute quickly while guys like Benay Pryer may see huge dividends later as he is very talented but raw. Trev Patt will provide some quality depth in the future although may not be leaned upon heavily this year and James Butler and Surgent may give us a big boost on the speed scale at WR. I wish we could have landed a bigger impact DT and a little more help at DE since Douglas and possibly Gaddies are gone but I think we have enough young talent in Brandon McCray and Justin Robertson etc..to make up for some of that loss.
This appears to be a dynamic group of recruits. Some unknowns. Some former blue-chippers. Some guys looking for a second chance.
More than likely, the overall impact won't be felt for at least two or three years.
