Actually the $1 million came from local businessman John Georges and former UNO standout Gabe Corchiani.

As for my blog, it's one man's opinion thinking outside the box. And to be honest I really don't care whether you agree.

Josh, the one thing I could give a crap about is if someone worked for Bobby Knight. He was a manager for Knight, not a player or coach. Why would u hire guy who hasn't won an SBC championship to be our coach? I think he is probably a nice coach, and has done a good job. But I'm not ready to hand over the monster this program could become to someone with a 509 record. Plus the only reason he has Billy Humphrey is because of the coach that is on our staff now

The Privateers struggled last season at 11-19 after losing Bo McCalebb with only three returning players as well as injuries and discipline issues. The lack of depth wasn't Pasternack's fault. It was a perfect example of how the previous coaches failed to recruit quality depth for the future. How he even won 11 games with that group of players is amazing.

Pasternack brought in a strong recruiting class this season, and UNO is poised to surprise a lot of people. I expect the Privateers to finish near the top of the Sun Belt's West Division.

He also helped get a $1 million donation from a former UNO basketball player and local businessman - quite a feat for a program that has long struggled to get any financial support.

Pasternack has a strong background as an assistant and recruiter. He's young. He's eager. He has Louisiana ties and has six years of D1 experience as an assistant at Cal. He has the approval of Bobby Knight.

And based on how things have gone so far this season, he's rebuilt the program with a mix of his own recruits from the prep ranks, junior college and D1. Plus, he's shown the willingness to get out and drum up financial support for the basketball program.

You would like to see a little more on-court success as a head coach before seriously considering him for another D1 gig - and I think you will this season - but those other factors show, at least in my mind, that he's a rising star in the profession. _
It would be a storybook type of situation were UNO to get to the tournament this year. Under that scenario, Pasternack would excite the fans here. I am sure Dixon would stay if that occurred. Before we automatically dismiss this possibility, let's see how the season plays out. Also, no one knows how the current Cajun squad and their leaders will do in conference play this year. We will begin to find out a little on Saturday afternoon.

i know where the million came from. Im just telling u why it happened. I wonder if UNO will have to return that cash now. I understand it's your opinion, and I disagree, but obviously Im entitled to my own. I just think hiring a guy right now who is unproven as a head coach would be a little silly. Should he be considered if things go well, sure. But I don't think he will be. Also, Dixon would not stay if Pasternack were hired just saying. The coach at Nicholls almost won the SouthlAnd last year with even less resources and fan support, plus he won 20 games. Plus he beat UNO by 20. Maybe we should hire him???? In all seriousness though Josh, the Southland is flooded with great coaches what do u think of those options. Marlin, Kaspar, Thompson

J.P. Piper is a really good coach at Nicholls, he has no resources to work with and he does a good job getting the right players for his system, especially from Australia.

Pasternack's name was mentioned assuming that UNO continued its early success all season. Kind of silly to think that I would expect UL to hire a coach that doesn't enjoy some amount of success. A division title/conference championship/NCAA Tournament berth would definitely add to his appeal. I think UNO has a strong shot at making a run this season given the talent he has assembled. Time will tell.

As for the Southland, Stephen F Austin's Danny Kasper is more proven and a more likely candidate - and not just because he and I both attended the same high school. I think he would be a tremendous option.

Beryl Shipley. Even at his age he'd be better than anyone mentioned so far. LOL

How is Champagne doing at North Alabama this season? I presume he is still there. I know he generally has had success in recent seasons there. Do you expect him to apply if we have an opening?

    2) Butch Pierre

Tim Floyd. Taking the motto of many here, winning would mean everything for this basketball program to revitalize and that is what is most important. That being said, I think that Floyd brings the best of both worlds of coaching wits and a solid recruiting base. He comes with baggage but he can out scheme many and would automatically upgrade our talent. To me, its a no brainer. However, I would understand also going with the safer bet in Butch Pierre.
