From that perspective, I don't see the New Orleans Sports Foundation making the same mistake those redneck boneheads in Shreveport did last year!!! _
The bowl agreements are the same as last year.

Troy, as the SBC champion, is the only school assured of a bid.

The SBC has a secondary agreement with papajohns.com, St. Pete and Indy.

If another team besides the champion has seven wins and one of the above bowls has an opening, they must take the SBC team.

If Troy, the SBC and the NO Bowl agree, Troy can be the team going to papajohns.com, St. Pete or Indy. That would leave the NO bowl open and they would take the other 7 win team. If there is more than one 7 win team, the NO bowl would get it's choice.

Do not look for Troy, regardless of their record, to get invited to any other bowl if that bowl can avoid it. Especially if that bowl is not regional.

Bowls don't care about how good teams are. They care about how many tickets they'll sell.

You don't really think the Motor City WANTED to take FAU last year, do you?

FAU lost a half mil on that bowl bid.

if anything i would expect troy to get the papajohns.com bid being it is right down the road... that would be our only hope of getting a bowl bid if the situation where we won 2 of our last three games and finished 2nd in the sbc.

    Jay-
Hypothetically if we get invited to a far away bowl, are we in a financial position to take the $500k-$1M loss?

I'm just picturing the ultimate worst case scenario: UL gets invited to bowl, but turns it down due to low funds in small pink piggy bank. It would be a disaster for the university.

That's the key phrase there, "if that bowl can avoid it."

If there's an opening (at the st. petersburg bowl, for instance), and there's two 7+ win SBC teams, then that bowl is stuck with a SBC team regardless.

Assuming the two teams are Troy and UL (hey, we can dream, right?), then wouldn't it stand to reason that the bowl would rather have the better, more accomplished team? Of course this assumes ticket sales would be a wash between the two schools. In that scenario, they'd offer Troy, but Troy would have to want to absorb the financial loss of traveling to St. Petersburg to play a superior opponent.

We can talk bowl bids until were blue in the face, but just like last year Troy has the record and the popularity to receive many bowl bids. I'm sure its going to be just like last year where Troy will go to the Nola bowl not because of lack of offers but because the Nola bowl is OUR conference champions bowl game. The nola bowl is the only bowl to give our conference a guarenteed spot (not a filler for another conference's lack of representation). Unless were talkin BCS bowl Troy will go to Nola bowl. As for our bowl chances we win one were bowl eligible with a huge win over the possible Big 12 North winner. I do think it will still take 7 to make it but like others said we could still be left out with 7 wins. Bottom line is we HAVE to win this weekend or at least play a close game, if we get blown out the attendance will reflect the performance for our last two home games. Yes I believe we can beat the Blue Raiders we can beat any team that we faced this year we just need to execute and not let up until the clock runs out (NO PREVENT!). Geaux Cajuns.

All for the Love of the Cajuns!!!

I don't see why any Cajun fan would think the Cajuns could NOT beat us.

Hell, you've beaten us more often than not, esp. in Murfreesboro.

Throw out the records any time the Cajuns and Blue Raiders lace it up (even though our records are about even this year).

The cajuns better blitz and attack like they did last weekend on defense to have a shot. Dasher has put up big numbers at times this year but we saw what happened when they played teams like Troy who got tons of pressure on him. He was wildly inaccurate and made mistakes. If we play conservative and by that I mean sit back on our heals and try to give them the underneath routes along with running that stupid dive option the entire game, we will lose.
