Thread: I believe we can beat the Blue Raiders

Default I believe we can beat the Blue Raiders

I just looked at their schedule and here are the teams and their records that they have won and lost.

    Wins: Our Wins:
    Memphis 2-7 Southern 5-3
    Maryland 2-7 Kansas State 6-4
North Texas 2-7 North Texas 2-7
    FAU 2-6 WKU 0-9
    FIU 2-7 Ark State 2-6
    WKU 0-9

    Losses: Our Losses:
    Clemson 6-3 LSU 7-2 ranked
    Troy 7-2 Nebraska 6-3 ranked
    Miss State 4-5 FAU 2-6
    FIU 2-6

I have a sense that MTSU will over look us and focus on our losses against FAU and FIU, and i dont blame them, but if they let that affect their heads too much, expect UL to pull off a W.

We have been inconsistent, but our defense seems to be clicking again and when McGuire is back in the lineup i think we will be striving to come back home with a 6-4 record. I know we are capable of this and picturing Marlin Miller, Yobes Walker, and Brad McGuire in the backfield that can be a very dangerous scenario and we've brought it to our offense at the perfect time, against our hardest part of the schedule. Just 2 more wins away from a bowl game and i believe we can pull it off if we continue any kind of consistency. we have won the Turnover battle for the past few games and MTSU had 3 INTs against FIU. Idk if im amping myself up to be disappointed or just trying to push hope in our fans. But, i believe it is possible. I want to see it happen.

I understand your frustration with the coaching staff, but do you REALLY need to be so cynical and pessimistic?

Honestly even if we get to 7 wins, we may get left out again. There are going to be alot more bowl eligible teams this year.

You may end up being right but with all the top heavy teams this year someone has to absorb the losses and that will limit the bowl teams.

MT is beatable. UL needs to approach the game similar to ASU. We cannot go with standard packages and hope to beat anyone from here on out. I liked what we did for 3 quarters yesterday and thank you Mr. Kelly. preciate it.

I'd work a lot on red zone offense this week. and third down conversions. and coaching Marlin in two hand smother of the pig in traffic. On defense. we need to work on a defensive play that clears a path for Zanders to come up the middle on every other down.

I have to admit. this was a good showing yesterday. at ASU. We had some predictable let-downs when we went into prevent mode. I really, really wish the coaches would get a hold of an opponents jugular vein. and instead of watching how their face turns purple and then letting up. just rip it out and get it over with.

As of right now there are 44 bowl eligible teams. 61 teams are still eligible to become bowl eligible. I expect alot of attrition this next week. Lots of teams with 5 wins. 26 to be exact(Teams that have 6 wins but 2 wins coming against 1AA teams which you can only count one are included). Anyways there are 20 empty bowl slots as of today. But that doesnt matter. What we need is to win 2 more out of 3, and have the SEC or Big 12 not fulfill their bowl obligations. Were second if we get 7 wins. If anyone needs an Excel Bowl Eiligibility tracker email me.

While I'm not going to be an "idiot" about it, I'm afraid I have to agree with 2112 on this one. I don't see how anyone in their right mind would want to select a team (I don't care if we end up finishing 8-4!) with back-to-back losses against 1-win teams for ANY bowl game. Put it this way, I'll ONLY believe it when I see it.

its about how you finish, you'd have to be an idiot to think that we wouldnt get a bowl game if we finish out beating 2 of the top 3 teams in the sunbelt and also beating K State with how they've been playing. If a team finishes the season strong they will most likely get a bowl game.

Im pretty sure if a team started 6-0 and lost 6 straight they wouldnt get a bowl game, if a team won 2 or 3 in the beginning then finished with 4 or 5 wins towards the end of the season, they will get a bowl bid.

I know we need 7 wins for a bowl bid. is that possible? if we beat MTSU i think so. if we lose i dont think so.

I think our shot at a bowl is slim to none. I also believe that our shot is actually better at 7-5 than at 8-4.

    In other words - Troy.

IF we beat MT and LaMo they both fall to two conference losses while we rise to 7-5.

Beating Troy under this circumstance almost assures that Troy honors the SBC bid for the NO Bowl.

MT, ULM and UL all stay home.

    BUT

AN undefeated in conference Troy almost assuredly looks for a payday.

If the NO BOWL opens up, they don't have to take the SBC No.2.

IF the NO BOWL had its choice between MT, ULM and UL they would probably want us or MT because of our fan base (guess who leads the conference in attendance?)

So, I'd say a 7-5 Cajun team is more likely to bowl than 8-4.

But I've predicted from the beginning that this was a season that we'll go 7-5 and miss a bowl, because 7-5 was good enough last year, but won't be this year.

SO, In summary, at minimum I would like us to Beat MT and LaMo. And if MT could do us the additional favor of beating LaMo the following week, that'd be nice (LaMo goes 6-6 in that scenario).
