  1. UL Soccer Cajuns Hit The Road


      Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns soccer team will look to snap a seven-game losing streak when it opens up Sun Belt play at North Texas and Denver on Friday and Sunday. In conference-opening matches on the road, UL has posted an overall record of 4-2-3. Four of those contests were decided in overtime.

    Kellile Jestes and Cayla Chatman lead active members of the team in goals scored with one apiece, while Jordan Belvins leads the team with one assist. Jestes also leads the Cajuns with 13 shots on the season.

    Freshman goalkeeper Lauren Berlingo has recorded a team-high 28 saves this season. In the last two matches she has recorded 15 saves, including a season-high nine against LSU.

    North Texas (4-4-0) enters the contest on a three-game losing streak. In its last three matches, the Mean Green has been outscored 4-0. Michelle Young leads North Texas with three goals on the year. Goalie Mandy Hall has 40 saves on the season.

    The Pioneers have dropped their last two matches, losing to Oregon and Oregon State last weekend. Denver (5-3-1) is led by Kaitlin Bast and Kelli Breidenbach who have three goals each. Bast also has two assists.

    Goalie Lara Campbell has recorded 47 saves on the season in nine games.

  2. UL Soccer Winless Women Host 2 Arkansas schools this weekend


     Louisiana's soccer team is still in search of a win as Arkansas State and UALR come to Lafayette for a pair of matches this weekend. On Friday, UL will face the Red Wolves at 7:00 p.m. Sunday's match against the Trojans is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Both Matches will take place at the Ragin' Cajuns Soccer and Track Facility.

    UL has won the previous five matches against ASU. The Cajuns lead the all-time series 6-3.

    The Cajuns have also put together a three-game winning streak over the Trojans, outscoring UALR 10-3. UL leads the overall series, 7-2.

    The Red Wolves sit at 5-4-1on the season and are 2-0 in conference play. In its last outing, ASU was able to defeat Troy 3-0 after taking down South Alabama 4-3 in overtime last week.

    Kara Nitti leads Arkansas State with four goals this year. Goalkeepers Susan Brown and Megan Stoltzfus have combined for a 1.46 goals against average.

    UALR enters the contest with record of 3-6-1. In Sun Belt play, the Trojans are 0-1-1 after a 2-0 loss to Troy and a 2-2 tie with South Alabama last weekend.

    Christina Veasley has tallied four goals for the Trojans. Rachel Maina and Danielle Dunsworth each have scored twice for UALR.

    It appears to be another tough year for both women's soccer and volleyball. I thought both were expecting a pretty good year.

  5. UL Soccer YES! Lady Cajuns WIN over FAU 2-0


      Cajuns Grab First Win Over FAU, 2-0

    Maci Andrus scored her first career goal in a 2-0 win over FAU.

    Cayla Chatman and Maci Andrus were able to score one goal apiece as Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns soccer team was able garner their first win of the 2009 season over Florida Atlantic. With the 2-0 shutout win over the Owls, the Cajuns recorded their first Sun Belt win of the season and snapped a 12-game losing streak.

    The Cajuns grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the 39th minute of the first half. Chatman was able to find the back of the net for the Cajuns' first goal from the center of the box. The shot was able to beat FAU's Ashley Lantes in the upper left corner. It was the freshman's second career goal.

    Andrus was able to put the game away in the 80th minute for UL. Andrus was able to draw the keeper out of the net and score on the rebound as the ball slipped through Lantes' hands. It was Andrus' first career goal.

    Chatman led the Cajuns with five shots, three coming on frame.

    Louisiana's Lauren Berlingo recorded her first career shutout, garnering five saves in the contest.

    The Cajuns (1-12-1, 1-5 Sun Belt) will wrap up the 2009 home schedule next weekend. On Friday, UL will host Western Kentucky at 7 p.m. CT. On Sunday, the Cajuns will take on Middle Tennessee in the last home game of the year. It will also be Louisiana's Senior day, honoring the team's lone senior, Courtney Hofland.

      Chatman Gives Cajuns Win Over USA

    Cayla Chatman leads the Cajuns with four goals this season.

    Freshman Cayla Chatman's early goal was enough to lift Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns soccer team over the Jaguars of South Alabama in Mobile on Sunday with a 1-0 victory.

    Chatman's fourth score on the year came in the 13th minute of the contest. Kelli Jestes was credited for the assist as the freshman forward was able to beat USA's keeper on a breakaway, finding the left side of the net. The game-winning goal was Chatman's only shot recorded on the afternoon.

    Both Chatman and Jestes lead all Cajuns with four goals on the season.

    The Cajuns' defense also proved invaluable with goalkeeper Lauren Berlingo recording seven saves in her second shutout this year.

    The Jaguars outshot the Cajuns, 14-9, but both teams recorded seven shots on goal.

    UL improves to 2-15-1 on the season and 2-8-0 in Sun Belt play with the win.

    Louisiana will play its season finale on the road against Louisiana-Monroe on Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. CT.

  9. UL Soccer Weather Forces Final Match To Saturday


      Louisiana's Lady Cajuns soccer team will close out the 2009 season with a trip to Monroe, La., to take on in-state and Sun Belt rival Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT. The match was originally scheduled for Friday evening, but incoming inclement weather has forced a change. Saturday's match will be held at the NELSA Soccer Complex.

    The Lady Cajuns (2-15-1, 2-8 Sun Belt) are coming off their second win of the season with a 1-0 victory over South Alabama last Sunday.

    Leading the offensive charge for UL are Cayla Chatman and Kellie Jestes, both of whom have four goals on the season. Jordan Blevins has two goals on the season. Jestes also has two assists, while the other two-assist player is Chelsea Balestra.

    In goal, Lauren Berlingo has pitched two shutouts. She has a .697 save percentage and has 83 saves on the season.

    The Cajuns are 4-1-2 all time against the Warhawks.

    The Warhawks (2-13-2, 1-8 Sun Belt) are led by Linsdey Tubbs and Kelly Browne. Both players have three goals on the season. The other three-goal player is Britnie Markham. Tubbs has three assists, while Browne has two. Markham has one assist on the season.

    The Warkhawks have been outscored 58-to-15 on the season, with 34 goals coming in the second half of the match. They also have been outshot 285-to-172.

  10. UL Soccer Soccer Drops Season Finale, 3-2


      An early two-goal lead could not hold up as Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns soccer team fell in overtime to Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday in the 2009 season finale, 3-2.

    Cayla Chatman was able to get UL on the board in the 20th minute, scoring from 20 yards out. Two minutes later, Chatman scored again after an assist from Dani Presley, for a 2-0 halftime lead. With the two scores, Chatman scored a team-best six goals for the Cajuns this season. Her performance ranks fifth all-time for goals scored in a single season. It was also the first multi-goal game of the year for Chatman and the Cajuns.

    Well into the second half, the Warhawks responded scoring in the 63rd and 73rd minute to force the match into the extra frame. In overtime, Tiffany Bombard scored her second goal of the day to win the match.

    Hannah Snopek and Lauren Berlingo split time in goal, combining for 15 saves. But Louisiana-Monore's offense was ablt to outshoot the Cajuns 34-16.

    Chatman led UL with five shots. Kelli Jestes and Chelsea Balestra each recorded four shots during the contest.

    The Cajuns finish the season 2-16-1 overall and 2-9 in Sun Belt matches. ULM improved to 3-13-2 and 2-8 in league play heading into their season finale on Sunday.
