UL - Louisiana’s Lady Cajuns softball team announced the signing of five players on National Signing Day. Sarah Draheim (Flower Mound, Texas), Jennifer Martin (Lafayette, La.), Britni Soria (Fort Worth, Texas), Jensen Tydelski (Pearland, Texas) and Meagan Waterman (Ashburn, Va.) all signed National Letters of Intent to play softball for Louisiana starting in 2010.
The five players consist of two utility players, an outfielder, an infielder and a catcher.
“This is probably the most athletic signing class in my nine years here at UL,” co-head coach Michael Lotief commented. “They are diverse and can all play multiple positions. They are all very talented, every one of them.
“They have all played at the highest level, competing in Gold Nationals and in state championships. They bring power, speed and softball savvy to the team so it is a very impressive class. It is a good day for Ragin’ Cajuns softball.”
Draheim played softball and basketball at Marcus High School in Flower Mound, Texas. She helped the Marauders win the District Championship in both softball and basketball as a sophomore. Draheim led MHS to the State Semifinals as a sophomore. She was named District 6-5A Catcher of the Year as a sophomore and a junior. Draheim was tabbed Marcus High School Most Offensive Player as a sophomore and MHS Most Valuable Player as a junior.
Martin played softball and basketball at St. Thomas More in Lafayette. She played both pitcher and shortstop for the Cougars’ softball team. Martin helped the Cougars to the 2006, 2007 and 2008 District Championship and led STM to the 4-A State Championship in 2007. She has helped STM to an 85-25 (.773) record in three seasons. For her efforts, Martin was named to the 2008 NFCA All-South Region team. She was also named First Team All-District selection in 2006, 2007 and 2008; First Team All-Acadiana in 2007 and 2008; and First Team All-State in 2007 and All-State Honorable Mention in 2008.
Soria lettered in both softball and tennis at Saginaw High School in Fort Worth, Texas. She was all over the field, playing shortstop, centerfield, third base and catcher for the Rough Riders. Soria led SHS to a District Championship in 2008 and helped Saginaw to the State Playoffs in 2008. She was named Newcomer of the Year as a sophomore and Offensive Player of the Year as a junior. Soria was tabbed First Team All-District in 2007 and 2008, while earning Second Team Super Teams accolades in 2007 and 2008. She had the game-winning walk-off home run against Crowley in the Bi-District Championship game. At the conclusion of her junior year, Soria holds the Rough Riders school record for home runs, on-base percentage and stolen bases. Soria was the first girl on the Saginaw High School tennis team and was named Second Team All-District as a sophomore in tennis. A versatile athlete, Soria won three State Titles and a National Title in Taekwondo.
Tydelski played all three outfield positions at Pearland High School in Pearland, Texas. She helped the Rowdy to the 2007 District Championship. Tydelski and Pearland High School were Regional Finalists in 2006 and Regional Quarterfinalists in 2007 and 2008. She has helped PHS to an 89-27 (.767) overall record in three seasons. Tydelski was named Second Team All-District in 2008 and tabbed Freshman Most Valuable Player in 2006. She earned Oiler Pride Award in 2008 while hitting over .300 with 15 stolen bases.
Waterman played her first three seasons of high school softball at Monsignor Kelly High School in Beaumont, Texas before transferring to Broad Run High School in Ashburn, Va. for her final season. She helped Monsignor Kelly to a Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools 6A State Championship in 2008. Waterman advanced to the State Tournament in 2008 and the Regionals in 2007. She led the Monsignor Kelly Bulldogs to a 27-6 (.818) overall record in 2008, hitting .410 with eight doubles, a home run, 26 RBI. Waterman was tabbed All-District and All-State in 2006 and 2007 and named to the All-State Tournament Team in 2008. She was the Monsignor Kelly Offensive MVP in 2006 and Player with the Most Heart in 2007. Waterman was named to the All-Southeast Texas Softball team from 2006-08.
