Thread: Brodhead says NIL, revenue sharing challenges put UL at crossroads

  1. UL Basketball Brodhead says NIL, revenue sharing challenges put UL at crossroads

Garry Brodhead has spent decades around the game of basketball, and now, as the sport changes faster than ever, the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns women’s coach says the biggest challenge isn’t on the court.

'Need money' comments and 'our games are free' does not sound credible.

Some museums are "free" but at least have a "donation" jar near the entrance

More excuses by Brodhead. He did not recruit well when money was not a problem [pre NIL]. Admittedly it is somewhat more difficult now, but if he had recruited well enough to be successful before NIL, it would be much less difficult now.

    Right.

Sunbelt men's and women's basketball are one bid leagues. So if you want to compete on a national level, yeah, you'll need to invest and buy good players. Same can be said about any sport, really.

But look at the other teams in these leagues. They are at least competing. We are the picture of non competitive. What NIL are they dedicating to a non revenue sport like WBB?

If Title IX is about equality, shouldn’t Maggard offer CGB a goodbye “tour” like Marlin?

Other than softball (which had a benefactor), women’s sports have a “just because” existence.

There have been totally inexcusable losses through his tenure prior to NIL. Yet, here we are, even with all the basketball connections away from UL.

I can’t wait for home baseball games to not be shown on espn+ because this program contractually has priority.

    Complete nonsense.

His message is mostly right. He’s the wrong messenger.

On the one hand, the Athletic department charges for what they have no hand in, "Tailgating" which is a fan made, fan built event.

On the other hand, they give away what they should be generating funds for.
