But think of the conference expansion! UL, Tech, ULM, Northeastern, McNeese, Southeastern, Nichols, Southern, Grambling.....and I hear Acadiana and STM are ready to move up! Word is, Acadiana has the edge because a lot of AD's believe STM's private money would be too much of an advantage.

If we put in the effort to support the program back then with facilities and resources like we do today, we would probably be somewhere in the American Conference with a chance to move up. But we sat on our hands. Just look at the next two seasons after this one, and you will see the results of what happens when you put no effort into the program.

We had future NFL Pro Bowlers at QB and WR on that roster. As well as a future NFL RB.

Prior to the current state of affairs, if by delusional you mean lots of variables, ok.

The only limitations then on opponent quality (for independent scheduling) were those that would be self imposed.

You were not limited to choiceless opponents.
