    A lot of people think Maurice Duquesnay was the model for Ignatius.

    It was actually Bob Byrne.

    Pat Rickles thought she was the model for the (neurotic left-wing) girlfriend...

    He does seem to fit the model. He is a very interesting individual to say the least.

    According to the biography George Deaux was a member of the UL (SLI) faculty at the time Toole was an instructor in 1961 and he had a book published by Simon and Schuster. The first publishing company Toole sent his manuscript to was Simon and Schuster.

    that would be Mr. Byrnes--think that is the spelling---who said plaids, stripes, solids in any color don't match??? What a great guy!!!

    Best book ever! I read it every 2-3 years just when I start to forget some of the details. It gets better every time.
