Thread: Increasing Attendance at Our Sporting Events

Default Increasing Attendance at Our Sporting Events

I know we have talked about this many times on what, when, and how to do increase attendance numbers besides winning at attracting good opponents; but I wanted to really learn the ways to get this done with the Cajun culture. We are obviously different than our conference peers with "the way we do things." As everyone knows, the way we make money around here is inside the gates of festivals, parades, and parks to where admission is almost "free." At the same time, Cajun Athletics charges gate prices to make their money up front from tailgating to tickets to where there may be a number of locals who feel "priced out."

So, here is my question for Cajun fans. In your opinion, is there a way to change the formula in order to draw more to our games?

Sure is. But the administration and the the money grabbing RCAF won’t let go of their chokehold on the situation.

If you want more people in general, then lower the gate prices.. and with the way this school markets itself, it will take A LONG time before public perception starts to swing that the games are no longer prohibitively expensive. They've basically forged in iron the idea that UL is overpriced to most people.. That won't change by running a one game 25% special and then saying "see, nobody showed up anyway!", and you won't get any results by trotting out the usual "well season tickets come out to $8 per game!" The public either doesn't want or can't use 6 games worth of tickets each year.

However, I don't think the admin is asking the same question you are. More general public is not what they want. They're asking themselves "how do we get more people who are willing to pay for suites and luxury boxes?"

The only way to increase attendance is if you market market market, win games, scheduling, and change the game day experience.

Till we start putting fans first and actually showing we care whether or not they show up is the only way to increase attendance.

Too late in cycle to market Marlin.....as long as he is HC basketball is dead. I like the guy, he has absolutely no ability....none.....to create any spark with fans. Never has. His interviews are all dull monitone.

It's been 2 years Des has to fix his speech presence....IT screams lack of confidence. He can't get through a press conference without saying dozens of "you know" and pauses with "uh"......Confident executives/leaders simply don't do this.

Start with a complete reset in basketball.

You really believe that Mike's speech patterns affect attandance on saturdays? You cant really believe that right? So we have 40k listening to his press conference but only 15k show up bc he says "you know"? thats an interesting take.

    Thats not what he, said.

His focus was on failing to capture the imagination which is what is required 100% of the time for anything emotionally decided to be successful .
