Not sure if anyone else noticed this yesterday afternoon...

A couple notes worth pointing out today for UL football.

*TE Matt Ulm has decided to give up football. Coach Rickey Bustle said Ulm plans to finish up his undergraduate degree and then go to physical therapy school. The Mandeville native recently finished his junior season. He did not catch a pass this season.

*With Ulm not coming back, the Cajuns are expected to add 17 or 18 recruits in the 2009 signing class on Feb. 4. The Cajuns currently have 11 public commitments. That includes the three JUCO signees and one 2008 signee, DB Melvin White from Texas. White sat out this season to become academically eligible.

Three junior college players - WR Andrew Joseph and Vernon Wolfe and DL Jordan Topp - have already enrolled and will compete in spring drills. Joseph's teammate at Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College, DL Tyrell Gaddies, has committed and is expected to be on campus in May.

*UL is looking at one more JUCO player, a DL from a Mississippi junior college, this weekend. (That's the most information I found out so far.) But he would sign in February and not arrive until the summer.

*UL target Josh Johns, an all-state S from Central High in Baton Rouge, committed today to LSU. That's according to a report by Scout.com. Johns visited Louisiana Tech last weekend and is expected to visit UL this weekend. He would have a chance to play right away from the Cajuns, while LSU might look for him to delay his full-time enrollment until January 2010. If that happend, he would be included in LSU's 2010 signing class.

For the longest time we had only 15 to give. This happens every season.

How many new scholarship players did we add last August?

If you were a TE and never got a pass thrown to you becuase our idiot coaches don't know how to use TEs, would you want to continue to play?

The coaches seemed to be able to find Green and Aubrey. Lets face it Ulm made a mistake not going to ULM.

You are right. We did pass to TEs this year. Ulm was simply not in the equation. It was always weird to look down and see ULM on the back of a Ragin Cajun jersey.

Did you watch the Cajuns last year? The year before you could make that arguement but the TE was a very important part of the offense in 08.

With Green there I expect the Tight end position to catch a lot of passes in the future.

Green needs to seriously put on some weight if he expects to play TE. At 220 lbs., he is a tall wide receiver, not a TE. Which is fine, because we need some big targets with our other receivers being under 6'. Let's just use a TE that weighs in at around 250 lbs. and can block.
