Umm there is a certain school in Southern Mississippi that Louisiana has been playing for over a Century.

I am 53 years old been a cajuns fan my whole life in that span of time we have played A state 10 times as much as USM. A state has been conference rivals in SLC, Big West and Belt. When you play 2 or 3 times in 20 years, as we did so Miss its no longer a rival. So Miss has never been an every year, year in and year out on the schedule team. Thats not a rival that’s just an opponent.

Now having said that if we remain conference foes I can see it becoming a rivalry again. Thats if we do our part and win every once in while.

You can say oldest football opponent. It has never resembled anything close to a rival until recently. Playing once every 5 or 6 years doesn’t constitute a rival.

You weren’t around in the 60-80 time frame. Our oldest rivalry on the schedule. Bunch of youngsters.

Arkansas State is a force fed rival. Non organic same as ULM.

There was some excitement in playing them 15 or so years ago but not now.

There is more anticipation in playing USM.

For starters the publicity of beating out other applicants erases many negative connotations and would have sold many more season tickets.

The low profile transfer cost the school money from lack of buzz marketing and no generated interest.

I agree other hires might have created more buzz. But we will never know who the top finalists were. It’s useless speculation regardless of who the unnamed sources are.

I don't have any names or sources, so you make, a good point.

Just having another week of water cooler conversations about an ongoing search would have generated more awareness buzz than what they got.
