Just maybe it is not the head coach we should be questioning but the defensive coordinator. Defense lost to ODU, not the offense, and one could argue defense lost most of the close games last year. Isn't Morgan only in his second year as D Coordinator, like Des as head coach? And, he is listed as D Coordinator and Safeties coach. Tim Leger is listed as offensive coordinator, recruiting coordinator and wide receiver coach. That's a full plate. Is Des still calling plays? If so, why not leave that to his offensive coordinator and free up Dez to focus on the whole game and not just the offense? Why the double and triple duties of the coordinators and head coach? Are those budget moves as well?

To be fair. It was the opposite in game 1. Offense looked terrible, but the defense played well. But considering the level of talent we played, hard to gauge. Game 2 was the opposite of game 1. Maybe we put it together in game 3. I'm certainly hoping so. GEAUX CAJUNS!

that is not accurate. it is my understanding he got himself crossways with the foundation for being too aggressive with spending and now not allowed to spend without extreme oversight. he may or may not be embracing his new lot in life but sounds like his hands would be tied either way

Here is an interesting comparison of Year 1 & 2 (to date) for Napier and Dez:

Year 1

Napier was 7-5 regular season, then lost the conference championship to App State and beaten badly in a Bowl game to Tulane (41-24) and finished 7-7. Lost his first conference game to Coastal and lost to App State & Troy to finish 5-3 in conference, but did play for the conference championship.

Dez was 6-6 regular season, then lost the Bowl game to Houston (a game we could have won but for a fumble) and finished 6-7. Lost his first conference game to ULM and lost to USA, USM & Troy to finish 4-4 in conference and no conference championship game.

Difference in records of games won/loss by 10 points or less:
Napier won 3 and lost 3.
Dez won 1 and lost 3.

Napier Year 1 at Florida 6-7 and 3-5 in conference. Year 2 now at 1-1.

Year 2

Napier went 11-3, losing to App State twice, Troy & Miss State. Lost to App State in Conference Championship game and beat Miami Ohio in a Bowl game. Started year at 3-1 losing to Miss State.

Dez started year at 1-1, losing first conference game to ODU in a game we should have won (defense cost us that game). Now plays UAB (1-1 with a loss to GA Southern) and Buffalo (0-2 with a loss to an FCS school). Fix our defense and we can be 3-1 going to Minnesota.

Many are down on Dez right now, but the difference in the 1st year of both coaches comes down to 2 losses by 10 or less points. How will Dez define Year 2? Too early to tell and too early to judge him.

Des didn't inherit the mess that Napier did. Remember, we hired Des under the guise of him just keeping the train rolling. So expectations are different.

His body language has changed a lot since his first few years here. We have let him down, big time.

The first I picked up on this was that interview with Prather when the decision to keep Marlin was made. The transition from Napier to Des was a mess, and then he had to go out there and deliver a decision he knew was only gonna ____ people off further. He sounded like a beat dog in that interview and honestly hasn’t had the same fire about him since then.

Program was in a better state for Des than it was for Napier. Either way. Hard to fairly compare. Numbers don't tell the whole story, but I get the sentiment. I think he figures it out. I don't expect it to be this year. Year 3 is the year we'll start to see if he's the one. I was pretty optimistic before the start of this season. There's still time for that to come to fruition.

You don't have to like what I was told by a few different folks. It is what it is. You are crazy is you don't think folks from UL's upper tier leaks information. It happens all the time. RARELY can ANYONE keep ANYTHING confidential ANYMORE. Maggard is on cruise control pal regardless of what you or others think.
