This is true. That is because historically Louisiana college tuitions have been absurdly low. Until quite recently a student from Texas, could attend UL and pay out of state tuition for less than it would cost to attend Texas A&M as an instate student.

Edit: Quite recently is a relative term. I am 75.. to me that could mean 30 years ago. lol

What par doesn't mention is Louisiana is the poorest state in the US outside of Mississippi. the state of Louisiana has over 54 percent of it's population on some type of federal and state subsidy and the state has a negative population growth. And let's not forget the negative business climate that has been created in this state over the past 8 years.

If higher education wants more money, it needs to be part of the solution. Spending growth needs to be capped annually, more partnership with private industry like what's being done with the primate center and pharmaceutical companies. And they need to help cultivate business growth in this state instead of participating in barriers that make it more difficult in attract new business to relocate in Louisiana. You can't keep biting the hand that feeds tax revenue and expect the same people at the top of the food chain to continually pay more taxes.

Does anyone have the breakdown by sport? Or know where I might find them. I am not opposed to a little work. I am just curious where the ones with the budget have their money invested.

Yeah, I think I can make some assumptions with these numbers. Unfortunately, the breakdown is only for three sports. Thank you very much for posting.

The free sports (don't know why) are probably off the table.

Using the information on their site, here is the percentage of money spent on football, basketball, and women's basketball.

    Total Operating Expenses 2021-23

    App State $38,565,701
    Georgia State $39,913,963
    James Madison $57,800,447
    Louisiana, $38,364,254
    Louisiana, Monroe $20,527,424
    South Alabama $33,001,239
    Texas State $37,853,450
    Troy $33,355,524

Operating Expenses percentage spent on FB, MBB, WBB
    App State 40.45%
    Georgia State 35.24%
    James Madison 30.31%
    Louisiana, 48.66%
    Louisiana, Monroe 51.76%
    South Alabama 52.12%
    Texas State 36.59%
    Troy 44.54%

I believe Jay posted that we are either second or third in money spent on baseball. This is kind of what I was thinking. We spent more money of our budget on the more prominent sports. I wonder what other sports James Madison and Texas State spend their money on?

    Football Total Operating Expenses
    App State $11,995,591
    Georgia State $9,235,632
    James Madison $11,050,605
    Louisiana, $14,016,582
    Louisiana, Monroe $7,383,496
    South Alabama $13,046,697
    Texas State $10,261,457
    Troy $10,648,072

    Men's Basketball Total Operating Expenses
    App State $2,030,131
    Georgia State $2,960,164
    James Madison $3,544,046
    Louisiana, $2,900,954
    Louisiana, Monroe $1,568,647
    South Alabama $2,667,675
    Texas State $2,055,229
    Troy $2,233,728

    Women's Basketball Total Operating Expenses
    App State $1,572,505
    Georgia State $1,870,578
    James Madison $2,927,407
    Louisiana $1,751,536
    Louisiana, Monroe $1,673,019
    South Alabama $1,487,440
    Texas State $1,532,213
    Troy $1,975,102
