Thread: 2008 Bowl Season Louisiana Snubbed by Indi Bowl

    Default Heres an idea

What do yall think about this? After the Independence bowl gets shut down this year, should the sunbelt go into Shreveport and help create a new bowl game there with a lower payout between SBC & CUSA or one of the last place SEC or Big 12 teams? I think one of the biggest killers for the Independence bowl is going to be its 1.1 million dollar pay out where as a 350k bowl might actually be able to succeed there. Also, you have to consider that independence stadium will be doing whatever it can to have something viable going on inside its stadium because it would be rotting without this bowl game. I would prefer a south Louisiana bowl too, but there just isn't a stadium in south Louisiana really viable enough to sustain. Aside from that, the positives are good considering that 6 of the 9 members of the sunbelt conference would be within driving distance, those being UL, ULM, NT, ASU, MT, and WKU. ALL 6 are within a 10 hour drive according to mapquest, and all would travel atleast a few thousand to that stadium in the event of a bowl bid.

You could call it the Tabasco Cajun bowl, or the Arklatex bowl, or anything as long as one of the primary tie ins should be the Sun belt #2.

This i just something that I thought of, wonder if anyone else likes this thought.

  3. UL Football Bowl picked the wrong team

UL's Ragin' Cajuns were eligible for the 2008 Independence Bowl in Shreveport. It would have made good sense sports-wise and business-wise to pit them against Louisiana Tech. Apparently, good sense was not a factor in the matter. Northern Illinois was chosen instead of UL.

Competition between UL and Tech would have had strong drawing power. Two state schools in competition would have attracted a far larger crowd than a contest between Tech and Northern Illinois.

Independence Bowl officials will regret the selection if they go to the Louisiana Legislature for funding again. State legislators, who must approve the funding, are angry.

    The rest of the story

They want to try and show that they are continuing to seperate(ha)themselves from The Belt! This way this year only LSU and Tech went to Bowls(sep). Playing UL head to head, IF they lost, recruiting would suffer and idenity would also. Tech fans would start scratching their collective head as to, was the WAC a Wacky idea? Also the money, they get UL does not. Tech knew that if UL was not allowed into the Indy bowl, then E. Michigan had to go somewhere and Notre Dame also leaving only Two bowl options left. Motor City would be a far travel for UL fans and their bowl committee may frown on that. Also PapaJohns bowl seemed to be looking more Eastern type teams.

With the Stadium renovations up coming, Baseball, and Softball and the Creation of the RCAF Tech and many others are going to start taking notice at LOUISIANA!

    Default Roady's Huminatarian Bowl

Maryland is playing Nevada in the Humanitarian Bowl in beautiful and sunny Boise, Idaho, on December 30. At last count, the two schools have sold a combined total of 32 tickets

In Maryland's defense, two of those tickets are for Ralph Friedgen.

Boise sold someone on having a bowl. Mainly so they would have a place to play after the season. Seems I've heard similar suggestions for a bowl in the Swamp on this board.

FCS TEAMS?? Why would we want to have a "special promoted" game with any of THEM!?? I'd rather have a good MAC, WAC, or BCS school come in for a game like that. FCS teams do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for us!!!

They get you bowl eligible, and everyone involved can still get home by 7pm

Our record isn't that great against them. I don't want to play any FCS schools. The good ones can beat us and if you don't win by 21 it is like a loss.

RC it is crazy to run from past losses.
