UL coach Rickey Bustle talked to his football team about goals prior to its two-hour Tuesday practice.
"I told them you don't have just one goal," Bustle said. "Obviously, our goal of winning the conference is gone, but the goal of a second straight winning season is still there and that hasn't happened in a long time."
The winning season goal is tough enough, since the Cajuns (4-5, 1-3 Sun Belt) need to sweep their last three games to finish above .500 both overall and in league play. They'll start that effort in Saturday's 5 p.m. (CST) contest at Florida International (0-9, 0-4) in UL's final road game of the season.
"We set goals every year," Bustle said. "That's what you do if you want to progress. We talked about preparing to meet those goals today."
The Cajuns are mired in a three-game losing streak, one extended in last Saturday's 16-7 home loss to North Texas. FIU, meanwhile, lost to UL Monroe 35-0 at home last Saturday.
"Monroe scored once on defense and one on a trick play when they caught them napping," Bustle said. "Other than that, they had to work pretty hard to get three scores against FIU's defense. ...
