Think about how many failures are out there. There has been TWO public non power programs win the NCAA tournament since the Bo Lamar days. TWO. So with a solid 240-250 non power programs, do the math. Even use 200 for early days. 50 years x 200 teams. About 10k chances, and only 2 winners.
Should we aspire for such, absolutely. But it’s more DAL for public non power conferences to win it all than any coach.
Espouse what positives can be done (like raising NIL money).
And money doesn’t always deliver. Most people’s default, “why can’t we be like Gonzaga”…over 30 years, heavy private school investment, zero titles. And still play in a cracker box gym. I’ll looking for them to fade away soon, especially if Timmie goes pro. The ROI is fading.
The Zags aren’t going away anytime soon. People have been saying that for ages. The McCarthy Center holds double what our average attendance is and is sold out all the time. In fact we should build a damn replica of it where Blackham sits. Call it the Kendal Regis Center and name the court after Beryl Shipley.
I don't expect nor believe that we could build a National Championship program in basketball once in a while.
I do expect and believe that we could build a Sweet 16 program once in a while. Like every 4 or 5 years.
We should be capable of doing this here.
