Carter Domingue commits to Cajuns

This will end up being one of the biggest steals, being he is a walk-on, in the Marlin era. This kid will make an impact.

Damn right he will. He will impact sooner rather than later. As far as I can tell, we don't have any real talent that is true PG talent next year. I don't want to overinflate the situation but dare I say he could possibly be starting at times later in the year? He's got better size at PG than anybody we have and he's a good athlete who is tough but basketball smart. I'm excited.

I was told he had some offers coming in following the state tournament. Granted they were other mid majors. I do not know details there however. Now consider the circumstances this year. There are as many kids in the portal as there are players returning to their teams. That is causing recruiters to look at experienced players more than HS guys. Also, many teams sign their top players in the November early period now and go for transfers in spring. In Carter's case, many schools had no idea he would have the outstanding senior year that he did back in November. I am sure there are lots of other HS guys in his situation. Fortunately for him, he has the academic accomplishments to fall back on for his school finances. By the way, his Dad played Reds pickup ball for many years. More than held his own against younger former HS guys who are regulars there. Also, plays "smart". I am sure Carter picked up some of those "instincts" from him.

And Mike, don't forget he was playing football nearly until district play started so he was having to play both sports which is obviously very difficult.

I have not seen him play in person only on video but from that I would say he is more athletic, a better distributor, better defender, better off the dribble and more willing to attack the basket than Wronkowski. Wronkowski may have had a better outside shot and a little bit more size.

He's much stronger at finishing plays than Wronkowski. He's a true PG. The only knock on him this year was his 3 pt shooting but he improved it greatly his senior year and was deadly. He would be really good in transition and he's not afraid to take it to the rim. And because he's bigger he may not look as quick as some other guys but if you saw him guard Gage Lavardain from Riverside in the sunkist tournament, you know he can guard quick guys.

I saw him hit two pull up threes off the dribble against Liberty in the semifinal game at the Dome. He did the same in the championship game in Lake Charles. He is obviously capable in that regard. I don't know about him starting at some point in his freshman year. However I see him being one of the top bench guys almost immediately.

Yes, he will be a serviceable shooter for us. Really improved over the past couple years although he's never been a bad shooter. Who do we have that will be able to run the point besides Wilson? Au? I have no doubt that Carter would and could be a better player immediately than Au. Just saying. I'll be excited to see him play though.

You may be right in that Domingue will be better at point than AU immediately. If so, he may start quicker than many here believe.

Hell, maybe we can actually get into some sets if we put a real point guard out there. We could run nothing with Au trying to get everyone in place.
