The Ragin' Cajuns golf team captured its first title of the 2009-10 season on Tuesday at the Carter Plantation Intercollegiate.

In the final tournament of the fall season, Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns golf team placed three golfers in the top-five en route to a first-place team finish at the Carter Plantation Intercollegiate in Springfield, La. on Tuesday. It was the Cajuns' first win and third top-five finish this year.

"The past two weeks, we've had some frustrating results," said UL head golf coach Theo Sliman. "But today showed what these guys are made of. They got after it out there. It's a great way to close out the fall season and build some momentum heading towards the spring."

UL steadily climbed the leaderboard over the two-day event, starting in sixth place after the first round and second place after the second round before edging out Rice University for the title by one stroke with a score of 870.

Andrew Noto was the top-finisher for the Cajuns after recording three rounds under par (71-69-71). His five-under total of 211 placed him in a tie for second place and was the best finish of his UL career. The sophomore's previous best finish was a tie for seventh place at this year's Sam Hall Intercollegiate. Noto led the field at the Cater Plantation Intercollegiate with a 3.90 par-4 scoring average.

Following Noto, Kyle Pritchard and Philipp Fendt both finished tied for fifth place at one-under par (215). The finish was a career-best for Pritchard who shot 73-70-72 and led all golfers in par-5 scoring with a 4.50 stroke average.

With the finish, Fendt posted his third top-five finish for the fall season. In the opening round, Fendt struggled after shooting a five-over 77 but rebounded with back-to-back rounds of 68 and 70. He was second amongst the field with 12 birdies throughout the event.

All three golfers were also named to the Carter Plantation Intercollegiate All-Tournament Team.

Mark Brockhurst and Ethan Savoy mustered final rounds of 77 to help give the Cajuns the win. Brockhurst finished with a final score of 231(+15) and Savoy shot 238 (+22).

Thomas Disch competed as an individual and posted a three-round total of 236 (+20).

Zach Fisher of UT-Arlington won individual medalist honors, finishing two strokes ahead of Noto at 209 (-7)

Behind Rice and rounding out the top-five were New Orleans (T-3rd, 872), Central Arkansas (T-3rd, 872) and UT-Arlington (5th, 875).

The Cajuns will take some time off before preparing for the start of the 2010 spring schedule. The first tournament of the spring is scheduled for Feb. 15 at the Oak Hills Invitational in San Antonio, Texas.
