Brayan Au Scheduled for Surgery, Season Over

Louisiana Ragin' Cajun starting point guard Brayan Au will miss the remainder of the season due to a knee injury.

No surprise here. Figured that might happen when I saw him stumble off the court in the first game at Arkansas State. Guy fought through pain for much of season. Happy they are doing this now to allow more recovery time.

.....So this has been discussed before....why do we have so many injuries to our basketball kids? Do we have more than the average of other teams in our conference or in the country? Are the injuries common to the other injuries questioned? No clue but curious!

I don't know the answer to the question. I would only guess that we have more than most of our peers and that is simply from watching games on ESPN plus. Announcers often mention we have guys out and we seem to have more than the opponents. Still, from an overall perspective, I think kids play too much these days. I am not talking about pickup games at the playground. I am talking about true competition in AAU games. Some kids play 100 games a year and knees that young are not built for all that pounding. Brayan grew up in Mexico, played HS ball in El Paso, and JUCO ball somewhere in Texas. I don't really know if the too many games applies to him. I do know he had surgery in October, was cleared right before the season started, aggravated the injury in January, and hurt it again at Ark State. After what has happened with our injury situation over the last few years, I would be surprised if we are not healthy when we tip off next November. Cajun basketball injuries are like death and taxes. They will occur. We do have reason for optimism in one case. Joe Charles of Carencro, an early signee for us decided not to play at all his senior year. Supposedly he was declared to be 100 percent back in October but still decided to sit out the year. Not sure what his HS teammates and coaches think about that. It may bode well for the Cajuns however.

Marlin takes lots of health risk players. Players with serious injuries. Not always, but Au is an example of such a player. Julian isn’t, we honored the scholarship. So far it’s not been a good investment. Hopefully he’s going to be great for several years.

Marlin should be putting the full court press on Carter Domingue to become his starting point guard.
