I agree. Pitching is key to the whole thing. Even with a bad offense in 2017 we were very competitive because of pitching. It is the barometer that forecasts our fortunes.

    Dad04,
You mentioned the hitting system was in place now. Only issue is that everyone in the lineup today probably isn’t gonna be here next year other than Cantrelle and Breaux. So is it gonna take another 25 games next year till we hit?

Spears too for a DH spot. Also you have Bourgeois, Windham, Toro coming back off injuries but they know the system now as well. It's not a full new system install like we had this fall, you're closer to a regular turnover number this offseason, though it is a little heavier and will be a concern early on. I certainly don't think hitting is a guarantee early on

The learning curve should be steeper. We had to undo a lot of damage done by the previous hitting coach. Cantrelle was the canary in the coal mine. He picked it up faster. He, Breaux and Windy will be able bring the new guys along. Don't underestimate the coaching going on between players in the cages and bullpens. It is significant.

Also, if the talent coming in really is better, then those guys could pick it up quicker, since we are no longer telling hitters to forget everything they learned about hitting in the past 12 years.

I'll pass on Spears. 30 Ks in 82 ABs (36.5%).

Are we sure Gavin is going to come back?

I took a long hiatus from RaginPagin and have been back for the past year. Let me just say the negative Nancy’s have taken over here despite our athletic programs being in better position than when I left 10 years ago.

Perhaps we just no longer accept mediocrity here, which is great. I just don’t think its all doom and gloom.

As a mid major we walk a fine line between success and mediocrity. Can’t have much go wrong as baseball has proven. A couple poor recruiting classes have really set us back. The glass half full crowd says we have an amazing stadium, amazing fan base, a head coach with a track record and a damn good hitting (Wells)and pitching coach (Robe). Who here really thinks Robe won’t get our pitching back on track? 2-3 dependable relievers and this team would have been a contender. We just had nothing to work with. Which is a complete anomaly for this program.
Football was okay for a first year turnaround. Not great, but pretty good. I’m all over Napier being a great hire, but he’s got a long way to go to prove his potential.

Baseball simply has been declining for years. I’m not sure Robe has the fire to right this thing. Surely hope he does, he’s been a great ambassador with way above results.

I think you’re really selling football short. It was real good season for a first year coach and a damn good recruiting class.

I’m recalling that the West champ wasn’t even third in the conference, but tied for 4th. I suppose had we played in Arkansas we’d been 5th. Still we beat the Red Wolves in Lafayette, somewhat the norm for the teams. Yes that recruiting class was very promising.

    Love the math.

I'm thinking with .275 obp and a 10.0 era the record could be .625
