Comparing Denny Wright to Brad Boyd as players would be an injustice to Brad. No one can deny Brad’s accomplishments. Denny participated on Louisiana’s best team ever...no argument there. Denny gave great effort but was not a “great” player. He came off the bench...at best 8th or 9th man. Proper credit to Denny would be his assistant coaching experiences under Glen Duhon at McNeese, Jim Hatfield at MS State followed by an ongoing successful high school coaching career.
He was a favorite son and often his name came up as an assistant at times but never happened.
Being a great player doesn't always translate to great coach. Avery Johnson and Michael Jordan are good examples.
It all comes down to Marlin and Maggard hiring a good fit as they determine. My opinion, like everyone else's that posts here, means zero to their process.
Maggard will only be involved as far as approving salary is concerned. Head coaches choose their assistants.
Can we get Avery Johnson?
If UL was to hire Coach Brad Boyd I believe that it would be really BIG get especially since he is very know through out the Acadiana area & state wide with the AAU Community which would help UL in recruiting. I also found out he was helping out Coach Randy Livingston this year with his 16 and 17 team which has one of the State's Best Players so that's a very strong connection. Not to mention his Unsigned Senior Prospect Camp to help kids get into college. Personally UL basketball need a former Alumni as a Coach. Mike Des & Lamar Morgan are doing great things for football. You never know he could be the next big time Coach right in UL's backyard
