With the coaching salary pool we have available to this staff, I'd hope we would get a more accomplished assistant to fill the void, at least at this time.
    Well put. Thank you.

Denny Wright was a member of one of the best teams this university ever had. He took a swing a college coaching, was an assistant at McNeese (ironically). Even then, USL did not hire a favorite son. Wasn't the right fit. He is now a very successful high school coach, winning championships at Plaquimine and Grand Isle the past few years.

Kim Mulkey...Turbine, that is a whole other topic. She was able to shine even at the high school level in Louisiana at a time when Bo and Pistol Pete were playing college ball. Possibly pound for pound the best female player this state ever had. Don't know why Tech did not hire her, but I do know there is only room for one Alpha personality. And where ever Mulkey goes, she is the Alpha, does not take a genius to see that.

Musselman has left Nevada for Arkansas. Can we get the Brown kid to transfer to UL?

Not sure but I believe the disagreement between Mulkey and LTUR was length of contract they were willing to offer her.

I was thinking the same thing. Unfortunately, even if we were to get him it would be a transfer situation that would require him sitting out one year. We need help fast!

Saw on twitter that the Tyrus Smith kid is committed. Where is Galen Alexander headed? They played at the same Juco and are both soph.

We would have had a better chance had Musselman stayed, I think.

Comparing Denny Wright to Brad Boyd as players would be an injustice to Brad. No one can deny Brad’s accomplishments. Denny participated on Louisiana’s best team ever...no argument there. Denny gave great effort but was not a “great” player. He came off the bench...at best 8th or 9th man. Proper credit to Denny would be his assistant coaching experiences under Glen Duhon at McNeese, Jim Hatfield at MS State followed by an ongoing successful high school coaching career.

He was a favorite son and often his name came up as an assistant at times but never happened.

Being a great player doesn't always translate to great coach. Avery Johnson and Michael Jordan are good examples.

It all comes down to Marlin and Maggard hiring a good fit as they determine. My opinion, like everyone else's that posts here, means zero to their process.

Maggard will only be involved as far as approving salary is concerned. Head coaches choose their assistants.
