No worries. I was rambling about talent, but you are correct. It all boils down to throwdown. The Domincans have it in spades. They have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
I went to private school that didn't lose a wresting match the four years I was there. SRO every match. Throwdown and swag? Those guys had tractor trailers full of it....forty years ago.
You pegged me.... yes, I went to private school and played ball with many private and public school kids growing up. Our socioeconomic level was pretty much even. Saw the same thing with people's younger siblings behind us as well. It may be different in other sports. But if you want to talk in general, baseball is not as spread out as football/basketball when it comes to the haves and the have nots.
I agree with this. At the end of the day, we need to get back to recruiting the right kids that fit the culture that Robe made famous here. Whether public or private, we need to get back to our roots of finding the guys who play with fire and emotion. I love Robe and I hope he is here for the long haul, but I think he needs to look at the types of players our roster is currently filled with, and compare it to successful teams of years past. My guess is they won’t have many similarities.
The Dominicans will play minor league baseball for $8,000 per year until they get cut, or make the Show. American college players generally won't do that. I know one who left pro ball after two years for an engineering job. He couldn't justify the financials of more pro ball.
