But it still doesn't change the fact that these performances are unacceptable. What's baffling, to me, is how volatile this team is. One week, we go on a 5-game win streak and then the next week we drop 3 straight. I understand we are trying to find an identity in our bullpen, but what about next year when we lose Lahare, Veillion, Monica, Lockridge, Breaux, and Kassuls in the lineup?

This ship is taking on water, and if we don't plug that hole, we are in for a massive collapse.
The hole got plugged with the coaching changes.

Well, he may have waited 1 or 2 years too long to plug that hole. We're paying the price this season. Few people can build a staff like Robe. I don't think he's forgotten how to do that. Even losing Gunner, the staff will probably be a lot better next season.

The hitting situation will improve over time.

    Ok good.

For some reason, I thought both were seniors.

Coach Robe made the changes. I totally agree with that.

But is it true that JT is still working with hitters in the batting cage?

I'm pretty sure Lockridge had only 1 year at LSU and this is his second here. Breaux had 2 at LSU, sat out with a redshirt last year and this would be his 3rd.

However, both may graduate and be eligible for graduate transfer status next year.

Based on my limited experience, college baseball is a volatile game. Top ranked teams lose to midweek scrubs every year. Good teams limit the volatility with exceptional consistency.

This is not a good team. So, we will see flashes of brilliance like last Friday, that raise hopes, only to see the team revert to the mean, like the last three games, dashing hopes to pieces. Hopefully, the team proves me wrong.

Gunner gives this team swag for one game a week. They know they will probably win every Friday and play like it, because it is true.

Think about how that win streak came together. The 2 wins against Maryland were who wants to lose less. Next one was Nicholls. Next was us trying to give away a double digit lead to McNeese and had they had a couple more innings, would have beat us (I know the run out of time thing doesn't work in baseball but we were unraveling in that game). Then, we had an elite pitching performance to beat LMU on Friday. Some saw a win streak, I saw a coincidental extreme run of luck or "that's baseball" happening to our opponents for a change.

While I understand what you are saying...a win is a win is a win in baseball. After what those guys went thru the first 6-7 games with all the walk offs...a 5 game win streak over whoever SHOULD of created momentum.

Yep, Rage. The McNeese win was ugly. The rest, except Friday's LMU game fall into the "You win" part of "You win 1/3, lose 1/3 and 1/3 determines you season." analysis. The streak was simply fluky luck.

This issue is besides scoring a lot of runs on Wednesday, nothing clicked with the team where we were playing better. The bounces went our way and then went back to normal against LMU and UNO last night. We were still playing mediocre to bad baseball. Our opponents just played worse for a 5 game stretch.

Yes, but at the same time during that 5-game win streak, I saw a team that refused to lose. In the Maryland wins, we came back in both games trailing in the 9th. For the Nicholls game, we got a timely hit in the 8th with 2 outs to blow the game wide open. For the McNeese game, we crushed the ball enough to where we even responded with more runs when McNeese made that comeback. And for LMU, we were able to get some big hits and pitch well enough to play a complete game.

That showed me that this team had some grit. The problem is that we lost it after the Saturday game against LMU. Last night, it looked like the guys didn't even want to be there. Not only are we volatile on the field, but I don't see anyone stepping up mentally to get the team going either. What made the teams so great from 2013-2016 was the fact that they didn't back down to anyone. They were "grinders." Even in games where they struggled, we just knew that they would still have a chance until the final out due to their mental toughness.

We need that attitude back in this locker room right now.
