    Big Fish wont... ever

Actually it is a knock on our players. If we had better players we would win more games. It is true Marlin’s salary does not match the results, but it’s mostly because he has failed to have more than 5 good players at any one time. Recruiting is everything in basketball and we are unfortunately in a state that produces very few elite players. After LSU and the rest of the SEC picks through our traditional recruiting area we are left with mostly one dimensional or developmental players.
As CajunsMike has said, Marlin will be our coach for a couple more years. For him to make it he need to make UL the school Big12 and SEC players think of first when wanting to transfer, while also trying to find HS role players like Stove and Washington. Like it or not the days of us attracting a top flight HS players are not possible in today’s climate.

I never said it can't be done here. I said last year's team had a good chance to do it before the injury bug hit. We can get a repeat of last year and soon. This year's team is simply not deep enough or talented enough to pull that off. Perhaps they will shock me.

They fired a coach in football who won 8 games and would have won 10 had their stud QB not get injured.

So there is another example. Let’s throw that one out too.
Ok, I will bite. Name one advantage UL has over UH? They fired their 8-4 coach because they have some extremely wealthy donors who can write checks for millions of dollars. They are not a peer athletic institution at this time.

Is Houston’s level of athletic success more than what we can attain here at UL?

Building on a previous post, while I did not say we can't have greater success here, I did say was we won't draw many more people than we do now even with more success. That is based upon what is happening elsewhere, the rapidly changing world we live in, and the struggles of the local economy. I completely agree with those who pointed out that pricing is relatively high and I don't think it will matter how much more we win as long as we are in this league.

In our current conference situation, it will be extremely difficult to achieve what Houston is doing. I won't say it is impossible however. Get us in the AAC and things are a different matter.

It cost too much to go to games. It’s $150 a night of you go with a family of 4 or 5. To go see the Cajuns play a nobody. Plus we aren’t nearly as athletic and the Fletcher/Evans teams were.

We play hard and we are getting better athletically. But it’s just not enough to draw another 3000 fans on top of who goes every game.

We will have to get on a win streak like Marlin did his first season.

We had a longer winning streak last year than in his first year and did not reach the attendance levels of the later games in his first season. That is how much the world has changed in the last few years and prices are definitely a factor.

Most definitely not! We're in a pirogue compared to Houston with their yacht.

Didn't they just spend $60 million on renovating their basketball arena and now they are considering hiring Holgorsen from WVU. When would we be able to think about that?

    Equivalent??? Hahaha

They are head and shoulders above us and to think 12 years ago we were competing and beating them ... Amazing what a good AD does
